Are potatoe ricers worth the money?

I suppose it depends how particular about your mash. We like ours because it makes a really smooth mash and you don't even always need butter if you're trying to cut down the calories. And it even saves peeling (if your ricer is good enough).

Mine's the same as Honey Thief's and I love it. However OH doesn't care for it at all and finds it faffy (I just bung it in the top shelf of the dishwasher and it's fine).
I've also discovered a new use for it: Mary Berry just rices her spuds straight on to a fish pie and then bungs in the oven: when it comes out the little rice ribbons have all crisped up - looks lovely and I'm going to give it a bash next time I do a spud topped pie!0 -

I got my ricer out after reading this thread and topped a fish pie with it on Friday-it was delicious, I forgot how light and fluffy it makes the potatoes. I just put a tiny bit of butter in the pan after draining the potatoes, shook them about a bit before before putting them through the ricer then under the grill for 5 minutes.0
