Those that say it's a faff to clean, are your units all one piece? I could see it being awkward that way, so do appreciate that mine comes apart!

Yes, mine is one piece it's the Ikea one ...

    Mine's very much like this

Though it came with about 4 different discs. Wasn't expecting much for £9 but it definately does the trick!
  • I'm another vote for the "love it" side - I use mine to do mashed swede as well as potato and it's just great. I also use it when I bake with bananas. I made muffins last week for a charity sale with some very ripe bananas and they came out better than if I just mashed with a fork.

My came from Lakeland and the plates are removable.

Don't try putting blackcurrants through one unless you want a purple spotted kitchen.

They are brilliant. Even if you underdo the potatoes, you get away with it. I don't think they're any more faff than an old fashioned masher.
Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc
  • Yes mine is all in one piece. Mine came from Lakeland but years ago. Perhaps I might have to put one with removable discs on my birthday list.
  • I've got one of the one piece ricers. I don't bother peeling the spuds and all you do to clean it is pull out the odd skins as you go along and then shove it in the top basket of the dishwasher.

If you're feeling a bit skint, rice potatoes, then carrots, then swede onto a plate, sprinkle with salt and pepper, add a few dots of butter if you like - maybe some peas or gravy - and it is surprisingly filling, compared to having two sad potatoes, three carrots and a bit of swede on an almost empty plate.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

Mine cost around £10 and is the best £10 I ever spent. It has two discs and a doddle to clean. Makes wonderful 'proper' unlumpy mash and is great on swede as well. I iffed and ahhed for ages about one but am so glad I did eventually give in and buy one.

  • I use my stick blender to make my mash, easier to clean, takes up less space and does double duty for soups.
