Thanks, so I'm covered even though there was no mention of a warranty?
    No sunroof, it's a corsa

If its a corsa it is likely to be leaves trapped in the drainways under the bonnet - its a common problem - but likewise it could be coming from somewhere else.

Thanks for the advice, going to call them when they open tomorrow.

Also, at this early stage, you could have grounds for rejection on the basis that the car is not 'fit for purpose', ie, you cant take passengers in it because of the bad water leak.

Ring Citizens advice if the dealer wont play ball and they will advise you on which route to go down.

I wouldnt go down the rejection route yet just ask the dealer first, second hand cars WILL get problems but if a dealer puts it right with no agro its no hardship and all is well !

its going to be the fuse box lid i bet as nearly all of them do it when the foam seal breaks !(or will do soon) its a very easy fix that shouldnt take them more than an hour.

    No they dont.

Please stop quoting that all over the place - you are setting an expectation with people that cannot be met and is wrong.

Either go and read up on the SOGA and consumer law before offering advice on it OR please stop posting on threads like this - you are NOT helping the OP by giving them false advice.

+1 .... it really misleads people NOT ONLY after a purchase but can lead people into a bad purchase.
  • You bought it from a dealer, so they have to give a 3 month warranty by law.

    Does it have a sunroof?

    What is the car?

Oh my God no. Just stop posting, you're confusing people with your made-up laws.

It's part of a consumer rights law I believe.. Local mechanic told me the same thing recently and it is mentioned on the citizens advice website..

    Wrong, it's a myth.

No, neither would i at this stage. Just point out its probably an option if the dealer wont play ball.

The OP should read OFT 1241/1242.

I'd say (after going down small claims route) that anyone possibly going in this direction should read the docs above ASAP and act accordingly.

The drivel that gets posted about warranties is simply misleading people into doing the wrong things.
Specifically, arguing with a garage over some urban myth is just starting both parties on the wrong foot. Know your rights and just as importantly the limitations of them BEFORE you buy!

My apologies for the incorrect advice in this post, seems I had read some urban legend and regurgitated the same. No harm intended.

You do have the law on your side, as has been pointed out by some other posters and it would appear the goods are of unsatisfactory quality and not fit for purpose.

Hopefully the dealer will sort it out.

Can you edit and strikethrough ???
Top points and respect for admitting you had regurgitated ....

The problem being you don't want someone not reading the rest of the thread and regurgitating yours :D

Probably about half of people arrive on MSE motoring with unrealistic expectations of a used car and of the other 50% , 25% have gone about things the wrong way thus hurting their case before they begin.
