Getting a Scooter

I'd recommend a yamaha Cygnus, nice little scooter, I have one myself.
Put 37k on mine and it hasn't skipped a beat.
Good build quality, as you'd expect, large underseat storage as the fuel filler is on the front of the bike and the tank under the footboard.
Easily sits at 60 for the faster roads, gets to 70 with a tail windroughly 90 mpg / 150 to a tank.
And it doesn't sound like a wasp in a jam jar..0 -

bought the 185 guilera scooter about 10 years ago. It is about a 17 mile journey to work. took just over a tank for 2,5 days. On my third day nearly wiped out by a car doing a u-turn. 3 months later the bike was stolen.
I was sorry I did not get myself street legal trial bike instead.0 -
I'd say whatever you're planning on getting, do your CBT on a manual bike, it doesn't normally cost any more, but it does make you a better rider.
If the OP wants to buy a twist and go scooter he would be better off doing the CBT on a twist and go and learning the skills he will need for the type of bike he wants to ride. If he does the CBT on a geared bike he will then have to learn the throttle control of the scooter, especially slow riding.
If he wants to learn to ride a geared bike at some stage in the future then converting from the scooter to a geared bike is not a big step."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

Hi Richard,
I bought a twist and go scooter for my wife a couple of years ago and she has never even sat on it. I went to work and back on it a couple of times and it has only done 33miles now. It is a Yamaha Vity 125cc. Give me a message if you are interested as she is due to sell it now.
If not don't worry but I always think the Japanese bikes are the ones to go for. I have had Yamaha's, Honda's and others as well. The Jap ones always are super reliable.0 -
4 to 6 miles each way?
Perfect distance for cycling, by anybody in basic good health.
I'm not anti-motorbike by any means; my 20-year-old daughter commutes on a 125 bike with my encouragement, but that's nearer 20 miles each way.
I ride a full-size (650) bike myself and love motorcycling, but it rarely gets used for my 10-mile commute.
Whichever you choose, it's better than sitting in an expensive tin box.Long-haul Supporters DFW 120

Yes, I do use my bike sometimes at the moment, but the shift patterns are changing and I don't fancy cycling at stupid o'clock in the morning or really late at night.0 -
