Leaving Be Unlimited - random charges

Just to let you know, Be Unlimited are not so nice when you try to leave them.
I had been with them for probably 7-8 years. Initially, they were fine. However, in the last year, the speed dropped quite a lot, and then even cut my broadband by mistake once due to a billing issue from their side.
I decided to leave, and they sent me a bill for £43. They couldn't really explain what the bill was for. Luckily for me, I had cancelled my direct debit anyway...
Worth noting for existing customers that they offered me £9 a month for their unlimited ADSL, instead of the £12 I was paying, when I called to request my MAC code. If you pay more than £9 a month with them, just call to request your MAC code (you don't have to use it)

You cancelled the DD and then received a £43 bill. Have you checked your credit record recently? No free lunch, and no free laptop

They sent an invoice for £43 due to be paid in the future. I called them, shouted a bit and they cancelled that invoice, so no, it won't be a missed payment and therefore impact my credit rating.0

Express cancellation without notice is £40. Did you trigger that maybe?0

It was not an express cancellation. I paid the full month of ADSL, and had been with them for a very long time, so no minimum contract duration in place...0

Express cancellation can still trigger outside of the minimum term. (Admittedly it seems pointless as the monthly fee is less than cancellation) Just wondered. I cancelled recently (though in the end withdrew that before the cancellation completed) but there were no fees levied bar my final monthly payment. Just the c.£40 figure made me think of that charge (as it's only £30 if on the basic package but £40 on Unlimited/Pro)0 -
