Help with unwanted mail

Options
Hi there,

First, I hope I've posted in the right place, the "no cold callers" thread went to this forum, so I assumed this would be relevant.

I bought something from a website at the tail end of last year. I was having issues whilst trying to order and sent an email to them and got a response from someone (important for later). They are now sending me a catalogue every week. This is normally not a problem, as soon as I receive one of these things through the post, I log in on my account online and opt out, as they always like to turn this on for you, but that's a entirely different discussion!

Anyway, there is no option for opting out of snail mail in the account area, only emails. I therefore emailed their generic accounts email address, got no response, and the catalogues continued. I then emailed the specific person's email address I had (mentioned above) and still they continue.

This is really beginning to grate me now. It's more about the principle of this, rather than wasting the 10 seconds it takes to throw the catalogue in the bin. They shouldn't be able to get away with this. Advice please on how to get them to stop?

Yeah, stick it back in the post - with any other junk mail you may get.

What about phoning the company and actually speaking to someone ?

Don't do this...it just causes problems for your poor posties, and will ultimately end up being delivered back to you.

Do as Saver says, write "not known at this address - return to sender" on them THEN pop them back in the post.

As for the rest of the junk mail..as long as it is unaddressed you can contact your local Royal Mail depot and ask them to stop 'door to doors' This will reduce some of it although it will not prevent the addressed junk. I think there is an equivalent mailing thingy to the TPS but am unable to find it.

    Hope you get it sorted.

If your aim is to stop unsolicited mail this approach doesn't help in the least. It might give you a frisson of satisfaction when you do it, but in reality no one cares at all and you're still continue to be bombarded with unwanted junk.

You need to get yourself taken off the mailing list and that involves actually speaking/writing to someone.

Not if it comes from Virgin Media. I tried sending it back for months. Made no difference until I actually phoned up their complaints dept (difficult in itself if you're not a customer) and got them to take my address off their mailing list.

Plz do not put "not at this address". If you have a regular postie he may start sending back all your mail if he sees that.

"Unsolicited mail RTS" is adequate. And won't get the postie into trouble. Then ask them to remove you from mailing list.
