if this is in the wrong place please feel free to move..

I sold my iphone4 after i upgraded to a new iphone5, i sold this to a family friend (lets call her A) in Dec, I have found out this evening she has sold it on to a family member of her's a few weeks after (lets call her K), she has been in contact with me this evening to say that the phone is not working and apple have said that the phone is blocked by contract..?

what does this mean? I have not reported it lost or stolen, my bills are upto date and paid. as far as I know it has not been jail broken by anyone.

she is now saying I sold her a faulty phone and that I should pay K back the £200 she paid for it (I sold it to A for £180)

Iv told her I will speak to vodaphone re the phone but that is all I am prepaired to do... am I right? would you do anything else?

I think after nearly 3 months I have no come back on the phone at all....?

I guess it is locked to the mobile network that supplied it.
Only they can unlock it and be prepared to pay for it:

Vodafone will unlock the phone fone for free if you are the contract holder.

If you sold it as locked to Voda, then not your problem. Did you?
Either way, you have nothing at all to do with K, your contract is only with A-it's her you would need to refund if necessary. It's A who has the contract with K.
How on earth does A think that you owe K the price that she sold it on at?!

Forget about K; did A have any issues with the phone herself?

It seems the phone itself is fine - she just needs to put a Vodafone SIM in it. Clearly A did this with no issues, then sold it to K without disclosing the restriction - this is not of your concern.

If you want to be helpful, explain A should have told them the handset was locked to Vodafone, and if this is not what they want, seek a refund from them (A). Alternatively, use a PAYG SIM (on Voda) for a few months, then ask Voda to unlock it.

This keeps you out of the loop for something that is none of your doing!

update.. I have spoken to vodaphone and they seem to think that the phone pin has been entered incorrectly to many times and has been blocked that way... all K needs to do is call them to get it unblocked... I have said that I will help get it unblocked anyway I can to K.

thank you to all that have replied..

Aren't you so glad you are not dealing directly with K?
