Hi,

Hoping for some advice.

A friend took out a contract on T-Mobile and was told can use 07755 numbers to call India for free.
He knew nothing about this but the man in the shop pushed him with this to get the contract sold.
The man never said NOT to press the green button after the international number. So the friend has tried the 07755 number but ALSO pressed the green button after the international number.

He has ran up a charge of £200+ and the number has been suspended. When talking to T-Mobile he told the about the unscrupulous salesman, T Mob said to contact Traing Standards.
When confronting the salesman he said he has nothing to do with it and he will not pay a penny.

I see the friend must pay up for this. But surely the salesman should have advised him of how to use it? Can they maybe sue for incorrect advise and only mentioning the 07755 to sell the phone and not being of much help otherwise?

Any advise would be useful!!

As from 1/6/2007 T-Mob do not include calls to 07744/07755 numbers in their inclusive minutes anyway.

To be fair on the salesman, he may be aware of the fact that you can call 07755/07744 numbers using your inclusive minutes (at the time), however he won't know exactly how to use it because he's never had to dial another country.

For example I work in a phone shop and quite a lot of Chinese students only want O2 contracts because they can use their inclusive minutes to call China (0870 or something). We do use this as one of the network's selling points, but none of us know how to do it because we don't have anyone in China to make phone calls to.

So I imagine it's the same in other phone shops as well. The sales consultants only know that you can use a certain network to call certain countries, but the vast majority won't know how it's done or what numbers are used.

I think that's right, and it does sound odd that the shop would have recommended the possibility without suggesting referral to a few provider websites to study it in more detail.

This might be another issue, but without you disclosing it if so, did the person in the shop actually personally recommend a particular number? And can you find this number anywhere on the internet? If not, there may be some conflicts of interest involved
