Want to change ISP AND keep business email address

My current ISP allows me to use a personalised email address which i use for my wedding photography business. However, I want to now change my ISP. Does anyone know if there is way to use my personalised email address with another ISP i.e. BT, Sky, Talk Talk etc., preferably with unlimited usage.
Hoping you can help me.
Many thanks

If your email address is <something>@<ISP name> then the answer will most certainly be no.
How do I add a signature?

Instead of using an e-mail like

    suejoes04@sky.com or
    suejoes04@hotmail.com or
    suejoes04@gmail.com

    you should be registering your own domain;

    https://www.suejoes04.co.uk or
    https://www.suejoes04.com

with an ISP hosting deal that gives you one or more e-mail addresses, so that you can have

    enquiries@suejoes04.co.uk or
    sales@suejoes04.co.uk or
    admin@suejoes04.co.uk

I think the answer is maybe/maybe not. I'm still using my email address that I first had from dial-up days and I left the ISP many years ago. It has also mostly remained spam free :)

But googler's suggestion would be a better way forward.

I have several old AOL emails still live, I can see them going one day.

So now i have my own domain and some yahoo email accounts also.

    Well covered i think.

Is it just me or does it look really unprofessional when you see a van or something and plastered down the side is bobtheplumber27@tiscali.com or whatever.

Get a nice domain name, hosted independently of whoever provides your internet access and then you can switch between either whenever you like.

Even worse when they advertise their website on the same van which shows they DO have a domain name.

Googler's spot on here - it's not expensive (easily.co.uk do an email-only account if you're not ready for a website and don't want to use hotmail/gmail for the behind the scenes mail handling) and makes you able to swap ISP and web host etc as many times as you like until the end of time (if you keep the domain alive).
  • Thanks guys for the info - you have actually clarified my query in that I DO have my own domain name and that is where I can use and change my business email address. Not being very technical I did not understand this until our discussion. So thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.:T

Ahh awesome, unless they have some weird clause like "we gave it you for free, so it's ours" then yes you are free to move.

Migrating a domain name to a new ISP is a little more involved and may involve a bit of downtime where you can't receive emails and your website will be unavailable. Me, and I'm sure plenty of others here, have done it before so come back if you are getting any hassle with it.
