Bell/admiral insurance hire car problem

Long story short. Took out fully comp policy in the summer with hire car cover. Car written off a week ago. Been using public transport. Decided I need a car (as initially offered a week ago).

But now been told, hire car as of nov 2012 isn't allowable since it involved car getting hit by a falling object (and flooding, acts of god etc)

I was never notified in nov or last week (as far as I'm aware).

Plus is falling object from another vehicle something random or potentially human negligence ?

So I have no car while my file handler calls to discuss settlements plus I've paid for hire car and not able to use it... Mis selling?

Anyone shed info before ins co calls back soon please?

Policy was taken out over phone I believe & think she's going to double check the convo from summer

Helpppp!

There are different types of cover in relation to hire/courtesy/replacement car. You'll need to check exactly what you bought. If you bought cover in summer 2012, they can't change it in November.
  • I believe over the phone it was 'in event the car is written off'

I thought hire car cover is hire car cover

I'll double check, but she became shifty when I argued back

The fact that offered it initially and not now & that I received no letter, makes me suspicious

People will be falling over themselves to give you a hire car if someone else's insurer is paying.

If your insurer has to pay themselves they will be much more reticent but all the info you need will be in the policy you bought. I'd rely on reading that rather than relying on what a call centre operator tells you.
  • When I bought insurance, it apparently didn't cover floods, acts of god & apparent grey area stuff like falling objects.

The lady rang back & confirmed I wasn't told the detail over the phone at the time.

She couldn't over ride this on her system & therefore with Albany assîstance, so has arranged hire cover with another company who will call me back.

She's apologies & has said that as a manager shell let the sale team know.

Is this enough or should I complain to get compensation?

yep, albany assistance are a credit hire firm who will be falling over themselves to get you into one of their very profitable credit hire cars IF there is another insurer in the picture to claim the costs from.

As above, your policy will tell you exactly what you are (or not) covered for. If you can't make sense of it them post back with wording or a link and others will be pleased to assist

What do you want to be compensated for?
  • Because I can?
  • Well because I was falsely sold the insurance policy, as confirmed by the manager, and had I known, I would never have taken out the policy. I may well have been car less, having paid for a hire car & nearly never receiving it. And not being kept up with policy changes via email or post.

On my policy its only supplied if the car is in for repair.

If its written off etc then no car. From what i remember adding the guararanteed hire car was an extra £40 or so. Not worth it in my case.

But they have given you the hire car anyway? I don't see why you need compensated...
