Cabbage - is a different matter. I try to grow brassicas where you don't end up eating the bits that bugs have been at. So if you grow the tight cabbage for coleslaws for example, make sure the soil you put it in is as firm as possible or it grows loose not tight and that's when the bugs get in...if you think 'marble' that's how firm the soil could be to grow a tight cabbage. I'm never sure of what swedes are, to me they're the same as turnips. I like the idea of tennis ball sized turnips though.0

Turnips are the small white things that taste horrid
Swedes are the larger orangey things that taste good esp mashed with carrot.
Unless you are in Scotland which you are in which case it's the other way round.
