Replacement Oil Boiler

I have a 32 kw rated oil boiler which I am looking to replace for several reasons. I was looking at Biomass and have had indicative quote of £16,100, does anyone know if that is a reasonable ball park figure?
Have been told that includes
Tech Site Survey, boiler, flue, buffer tank, fresh water module, expansion vessel, controls, disposal of existing system, certification. Not sure if it includes a hopper.
Thanks Bob

Make and model? Size of buffer? Is installer MCS?0 -
It is MCS supplier.
The other details are unknown at the moment. They have asked if I am still interested in them coming round to give a detailed quote after the indicative.
My first reaction is that it is more than I expected, but just wanted a sanity check about whether I had my expectations are wrong.0 -
Hello,
Really hard to say without knowing the full details of the install but my gut feel is that without a hopper maybe it's slightly high but with a hopper I'd say it was about right/maybe even a bit low.
I think you'll need to go for the full quote (you've got nothing to lose). Then the only way you can sanity check it would be to get at least another 2 quotes for EXACTLY the same setup. And if I were in your shoes I'd probably look to get 5 or so quotes in total.
I wouldn't necessarily go with the cheapest either. As biomass boilers are more specialist than the normal LPG/oil boilers you need to have full confidence in your installer.
I considered going down this route when we ditched LPG but went for the safer oil option instead. Would be great to hear how you get on!0 -
Our boiler is 32kw as well and as we are doing a big refurb we have considered all sorts but biomass seemed the most sensible. However once we reached the £12K expenditure mark - even with the price of oil - we just couldn't see a return on our money.
Sorry it doesn't answer your question, but presumably your reasons warrant spending large sums.0 -
You could update the oil boiler for a 6th of that quote.0

Yep, which makes it very difficult to justify the investment and why I wanted to find out if that was in the expected ballpark. To make it viable biomass needs to be substantially cheaper, so it looks like I will stick with oil

Just had another MCS company on the phone saying we'd need a very big system for our house (5 beds/4 Bath) and the boiler room would probably need to be external. So that will mean much more than a straight replacement of our existing boiler, which will obviously mean greater costs.
The more I find out the less feasible the biomass option seems to be

Where you looking at pellets or a log gasification boiler?0

We were thinking of pellets, but didn't specify that with the suppliers. I didnt realise a log fed boiler could be practical0 -
