Paypal minus balance = bailiffs?

hi, recently i have sold something on ebay. the buyer opened a case making false claims. I have said to return the item and i shall refund. however ebay have will refund the buyer in a few days (like usual) and expect me to pay them back without getting my item back.
I have no intention in paying paypal if i do not get my item back. If this is the result, will bailiffs come visit me, although i am innocent?
thanks

Why will they refund without the item back - are they saying its a fake?0

because usually they initially intend to get a free item to begin with knowing eBay with back them
Not really as eBay/PayPal will not action the refund Until buyer proves return or at least attempted delivery.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. What was the item? What are the claims? How much did it sell for?0

If it did get to court you would have the option to put your side.
As I said that is just addressing your concerns about bailiffs, I'll let others give opinions on the rest of it..0 -
I appreciate all your replies.
I initially sold something which worked fine. the buyer then said the item malfunctions and opened a case without contacting me first.
I have requested for the item back and then i shall give a refund, however it has been nearly a week (and usually the case is closed by ebay after 7 days, and they refund the buyer)...and no sign of getting my item back. and neither has the buyer responded to the case from the moment it was opened.
so I am under the impression this is a typical case of the buyer getting a free item.
however I do not want to lose out, hence I am not willing to pay paypal without my getting my item back.0 -

No read the thread.
Any time limit for closure of the case is for the benefit of the buyer. Ebay will give them 10 days to prove item has been delivered back to seller (or at least attempted delivery made). If at the end of that time period buyer cannot prove that then case is closed and sellers funds are released back to them.
That is as simple as it gets, so if no one attempts to deliver your goods and case gets closed you do not have to refund.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
