My baby is 6months on 22nd and have been giving him meals here and thier from about 5months but just lately have getting him into a routine he has apple or pear or carrot in the morning (usally an hour after his first bottle but ashamed to admit varies to as I get up ) & has a small yogurt round 6-7pm. He LOVES yogurt and is actally the highlight of my day.
I am trying to make my own food but I dont eat alot of differernt things so has anyone got any ideas for what I can give him? I tried him with Bananna but he didnt quite take to it although I will try again later.
Thing is I am starting to feel like a bad mother, I've found out I am just over 5 weeks pregnat and the mornings have been unbearable this morning we didnt wake up till 10am and I forced myself to get his bottle and took it back to bed and he ended up cuddling up with me and sleeping till 1pm with me just basicly heaving and trying not to be sick the whole time - Skipped his breakfast to say least. I wouldn't change being pregnat for the whole but I don't know how to cope with this and look after him properly! He is such a lazy boy sleeps through the night and usally goes back to sleep in the morning if I cuddle him as long as he has had his milk.
I just don't know how I can get him into a routine when I am like this and I am a first time mum so I don't even no how much he should be eating sorry I know I'm just going on

Milk will be his main source of nutrition for the next few months anyway so don't worry too much about him starving.
How about baby cereals for breakfast? Just mix them with his normal formula milk. They come in a range of flavours, or you can mix plain porridge with pureed apple or mashed banana.
For tea, you could just give him a little of what you are having (try not to use too much salt in your cooking though). You can mash things up, or give finger food. Even at 6 months, and with no teeth, you will be amazed at how well a baby will cope with solid food. Google Baby led weaning for more info.
Your Health Visitor should be a good source of advice for any worries you have about how or when to wean.0 -
If he is sleeping he isn't hungry..
I got a stick blender and just whizzed a small portion of whatever we were having and fed baby that.. obviously I did a few extra portions for the days I was having takeaway/rice krispies etc so there was a supply of baby slop in the freezer.
Childrens ccentres often having weaning classes if you can get yourself there.
Breakfasts.. ready brek mixed with mushed banana, weetabix with warm milk so they go mushy both go down well with my lot.
You could try baby led weaning.. baby in high chair with some toast/fruit/veg (boiled until just soft but not mushy) anything goes..
I would definitely recommend a few powdered or jars of baby food esp while you are feeling rough.. it might not be what you pkanned but can be a sanity saver at times.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

You just have to go with the flow at the moment. If baby is happy and settled after just a bottle in the morning, then great.... Snuggle up together and get the rest you need. Just buy a few jars of simple baby foods if its too much for you at the moment and just give him bits when he seems more awake and hungry. Like one of the other posters said, he will be getting everything from his milk just now anyway.
Remember to keep your fluids up when you feel so sick.. Getting dehydrated makes things ten times worse.0 -
Hi Kayalana
I had the exact same problem at Xmas - 2 months pregnant, dealing with rubbish morning sickness and trying to wean my 6 month old! It is diffcult but as others have said be flexible. Hopefully the sickness will pass in a few weeks. I would suggest doing the apple/carrot/pear at lunch rather than breakfast for now. I have used several baby jars which were a lifesaver - now he is 8 months and I'm feeling tons better, I feel more confident in giving him meals that we eat and finger foods. Good luck

I can recommend the Annabel Karmel book for advice on baby weaning.0

Even if you don't think your own meals are suitable as a whole, there's often one part you can mush up. Any vegetable (broccoli/carrot/potato/peas etc), rice, pasta, a little bit of gravy or whatever. As long as it's not too spicy or salty it's fine. Cottage pie would be fine too. A blender on a stick is ideal for baby foods and you can freeze the results in ice cube trays. I used to buy the little jars of pure fruit and add some baby rice and formula, or you can use yoghurt.
As for going back to bed in the morning heck, why not? There's no rule that says otherwise. Go with the flow atm, you sound like a very caring mum and as long as a baby is kept clean, fed and loved they'll do very well. Half of the first few months/years of motherhood is about surviving from day to day and you really just make it up as you go along. Read the books, ask for advice but ultimately don't stress trying to be "perfect", whatever that is. You'll never be able to do everything the various books say so you might as well do what suits you and relax as much as you can.Val.0 -
Definitely look into baby led weaning. Much quicker, as Youl not be spending time blending food down or cooking anything separate, can be as quick as bunging a slice of toast in the toaster for breakfast. Cucumber and tomatoes and rice cakes for lunch and whatever you eat for tea just plonked onto the high chair tray

Have you thought about getting Sea Bands they can be useful for morning sickness and help some people. Just Google them for more info.0

The morning sickness will pass. You can leave weaning properly for a few weeks. Don't beat yourself up over it at this stage. x0
