Also if you get an email to say you have been retweeted it's not always a retweet.

Just don't worry about it! I have blocked dozens and dozens of people so they can't follow me or see my tweets and its not personal, I just don't want them following me or seeing my tweets for various reasons. What does it matter? You don't know the person so its not important, surely? Just don't take personal offence.MAY THE ODDS BE EVER IN YOUR FAVOUR0

I get a lot of these as well, and I think I may generate them for others!
What I do is:
See someone else who has posted a RT.
I then press 'Expand conversation', which shows me the original comp tweet, and I RT that tweet.
However, I think that this generates a notification to whoever's tweet I expanded the comp from, as I've noticed that sometimes I get a notification of a RT, and in the notifications area it's just the original tweet that's been RT'd and I can see it's been RT'd 500 times or whatever.
I think this is along the lines of what ikkle87's quoted blog was about...
The ones that annoy me are those that RT my messages, like "I really like this X. Would be perfect for my 5th wedding anniversary in August". They get blocked. I don't bother telling them not to do it - it's kind of obvious I would have thought. "Do you have a wedding anniversary in August?" "No." "Don't RT then." :wall:0 -
I think the whole being retweeted is just an annoyance really due to notifications.
If you don't want to get notifications by email, you can stop this by going into your settings and turning them off. I have mine set to only get an email if someone @ mentions me or sends me a DM. I think you need to log into twitter on a PC or laptop to do this. I don't think you can do it on your phone or iPad.0
