Blocked from following someone!

Options
I just tried to follow someone and got the following message -

'You have been blocked from following this account at the request of the user'

I dont even know the lady and have had no contact with her so why would she block me?

Has anyone else had this before?

I had this message when I tried to follow She Likes on Twitter. I contacted them and said they had this error sometimes but managed to fix it for me.

I am not sure as I am quite new to twitter.

I noticed she was quite successful with winning twitter comps and wanted to see how she was managing such good wins. Maybe she sees me as a comping threat, after all, I have had a massive 0 twitter wins to date :rotfl:

sometimes if you retweet other peoples comp tweets rather than going to the site and retweeting from there then you invalidate the person whos retweet you have used , so maybe you have done that and the lady in question has taken offence toit .... as i would TBH and i have blocked people for this reason , just one reason someone might do that !
my name is Kit and im addicted to competitions , the what if is my driving force :D !!

I always thought twitter accounts were private and personal in which case I wouldn't be surprized if someone blocked someone else who tried to follow them if they didn't know that person and never had any contact with them.

They could be stalkers, spammers or anything?
Well, you know, my ancestry isn't all hamster.
I'm one-sixteenth wolf with, you know, a little wolverine in there somewhere.
  • Oh... I had no idea that it invalidated people's tweets and could cause people to take offence! I thought a retweet was a retweet regardless of where it came from. I did retweet about 5 of her tweets so that may explain why she blocked me, oops.

Just a suggestion to anyone that blocks people retweeting them. It may be a good idea to dm people about this issue as opposed to/or prior to blocking them as they are probably new like me and oblivious to this rule. Where do you actually find out about these rules please?

Anyway, thank you so much for enlightening me Kit ....this comping etiquette is quite complex!

If you have "protected tweets" then you have to approve (or not) all requests to follow you.

No, she did not have a private account. I have various people following me at different times even though I am not following them; I just thought that was the nature of twitter, it seems quite different to FB in which a lot of personal photos and such are on peoples pages.

I only came accross her profile as she had won a competition I had entered. I thought her entry was very good, so thought I would look at her profile and possibly follow her so that I could gain a better understanding about twitter comps. I noticed some of her comp tweets on her page, which to be honest were ones that were already posted on here (like the sofem one) and just retweeted them without a second thought.

Oh well, lesson learned! I just comp for fun so I wont lose any sleep over it, and I am sure she wont either.

It depends on the person and day I guess. Normally I delete tweets that other compers RT, but if its happened alot on one particular day - I have gone through and just blocked people. :(

If they have RTed alot of other compers in the first 30 or so tweets - with alot of #win tags I automatically assume its a bot and block - as bots RT both compers and companies.
    Wishing you all good luck!
