Unpaid item dispute, can I change to mutual cancellation?

Long story short, I sold an item on the 5th. The buyer hadn't paid by the time the unpaid item assistant opened a NPB case.
The buyer has now contacted me to say that he doesn't want the item.
Can I change the dispute from unpaid to mutual cancellation? I can't see any option to on ebay (but I may be looking in the wrong place).

  • If it's just a change of mind by the buyer I'd be inclined to leave the NPB stand as a warning to them for timewasting.
Assuming the NPB opened on the 9th, it's now over due to close.

I agree, they should be left a NPB. A change of mind is not a valid reason. This person may make this a regular thing and without an NPB, getting away with it.

If you want to change a NPD to a cancellation

    Go to the Resolution Centre
In the box headed "Resolve a Problem" at the top of the page you will see a section with "I sold an item" and select I want to cancel a transaction.

On the next page it will ask for the item number. Enter this and then it brings up the transactions for that item. Select the one to cancel.

This will then close the NPD and send the request to the buyer.

I would let the NPB case run.

My Buyer Requirements Activity Log makes interesting reading sometimes - I've mine set to block those with 2 NPB strikes in 12 months.

Since 30/12/12 I've prevented 24 bidders who had too many unpaid item strikes from bidding on my auctions. 24 less potential PITA to deal with. :)

It will show that a dispute is already open for that item number. It can be closed without issuing a strike but FVfs are not returned.

About the same here, and interestingly most of my blocked bidders have very high feedback, how strange is that?

If they refuse the cancellation i dont think you can then file for a NPB so you pay your fees and they get to repeat with the next seller.

That's what I find most peculiar too! I did have an email from someone who apologised most profusely for forgetting to pay for her auction win - about 3 months after the event. I suspected that he/she had suddenly notched up the requisite 2 strikes and was fast trying to backpedal.

Needless to say I did nothing. :)
