halifax overdraft stop and eaten our wages

4am and cant sleep cos of this .....................

went to do internet banking late last night and found that the bank has taken off our planned overdraft arrangement

and our weekly wages have been taken by the bank/o draft - so now we have no money to buy food/petrol etc etc and pay a couple of other bills i do not pay through the bank for ' we also have out mrtgage due to be paid on 18th ....

yes we were o/drawn and yes we are paying for that each month

but are the bank allowed to take ur money like that and leave u with none ........

we have been with this bank for 30 yrs ...but i guess that does not make any difference ...guess thy are getting there own back after me winning 9'000.00 off them a few yrs ago ......

If you can't trust your bank, you need to change it. Shop around. Go and see another bank and see what they would offer you if you switched. Switch your credit cards too if they offer you a 0% deal. I wouldn't bank with Halifax/Bank of Scotland in a million years. I think they are one of the worst banks on the High Street. Likewise RBS/Natwest. How about trying a British bank that actually pays income tax in this country (as opposed to needing to be bailed out by the taxpayer), like HSBC?

Halifax can remove your overdraft, but I find it very strange if they did not tell you they were going to do that? If you are consistently in the red you should consider arranging a loan.

we did get a letter / a generic about our Planned Overdraft etc but did not say it was going to be stopped....

what if i speak to them this morning and thy will not give us any of our wages back that means we have no money for food /petrol....have no crdit cards etc and unable to get at any other money ...

i can try and open a new bank account

i can ask my boss if they will pay me cash for a few weeks till i sort things out

    also my hubbies too....

cant think of anything else and then clear the overdraft....if when i speak to them to day nad thy do not re-instate the funds ...i am going to have to cancel the d/debits we have as well as the santander mortgage

we can not get a loan as we have had bad credit some yrs ago and are trying to be good - this was about 3 yrs ago but our credit scoring is not good

Sorry but you shouldn't be depending on your overdraft.

The bank has the right to withdraw the overtime at anytime

This could well the kick you need
    For everthing else there's mastercard.
    For clampers there's Barclaycard.

Fine advice. Do you think somebody who's managed to make £9k disappear, lives in their overdraft and manages their affairs in a way that makes their bank pull an overdraft is going to get a 0% card?

How British is HSBC? I know where their head office is, but the former Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation probably does less than 10% of it's business in the UK. As for bail outs, HSBC's USA subsidiary Household played a massive part in the Credit Crunch, losing £billions through poor lending and contributing to the freezing of the credit markets that led to the collapse of Northern Rock, RBS and HBOS.

Oh, and HSBC needed the biggest rights issue ever to save their bacon.

By the way, HSBC don't pay income tax.

Just for clarity, you ate your current wages at some point in the past.
will be ringing them up first thing.....
And something will be sorted out. Time to start paying back though.

That was quick, just an hour and a half to get a credit card!

Sounds you are in a flat spin panic and unable to think very clearly. You need to calm down before you speak to the bank. It's not going to be pretty however.

May be pop into your local CAB as well to get some advice / help from them, and also hop over to the Debtfree Wannabe board. Generally, people over there know more about how to deal with debt than people on this board.

Why not? Presumably as it's hardly used it's not carrying a balance, so you'd get a least a month's free credit from it. That should give you a bit of breathing space.

Don't use it to withdraw cash. Use it to buy fuel and food until your next pay day.

Halifax withdrawing your overdraft is probably a blessing because it's not a facility you should be using on a permanent basis.

Majority of population do have overdraft available, but don't live in overdraft. Instead, they have some savings for emergencies.
