Sales assistant explained that they have to manually put through the fruit and veg and this appears to be the problem

scanning my items at superspeed is making the experience stressful

Its easier to keep up if you just put the items in the trolley although you arent the only 1 and wont be the last, the operator or all the checkout operators have an items per minute to achieve and anyone who packs at the till can knock the operators ipm (items per min) for six which means they get a rollocking (depending on the person giving the rollocking and if its a constant issue )

Yes the manual keying in of the fruit and veg is a problem, a big problem trust me.
  • I second the big ikea bags or if you've forgotton grab boxes from the veg isle.
It is a bit of a pain but you do get out quicker!
  • I gave up on bags and pack into trolley thus checking receipt while packing into bags in the car. I can live with this as the prices are so good, surely i shouldn't have to then return to the store from the carpark every visit?!

You can pack the bags at the shelf without leaving the store, it's your decision to pack in the car park.
  • Some of you sound to make it really hard work for yourselves! We just put everything back in the trolley as it comes through checkout, then pack into bags on the packing shelf - that's what it's there for!! Plus, I always check the receipt and, on the odd occasion when there has been a mistake, then the cashier on hand to rectify it. Apart from the fact that the store is now a lot busier than it used to be, we find the whole shopping experience there quite painless!

I put all my shopping back in the trolley as quick as the assisstant scans them through (then pack at the shelf) but quite often I feel rushed. They do scan too fast and kind of throw the items to the end of the small checkout. It's even worse if you have only gone in for a few items and don't have a trolley as you have to quickly grab the items while trying not to juggle them and pay/get change at the same time. I haven't complained as I like the fact I am in and out of there quicker than if I just pop to Asda for a few items.

Surely it's a case of you get what you pay for. I'm prepared to put up with it for the great savings.

I buy as many items as I can in Aldi before topping up at another supermarket. The system at Aldi is obviously what they've worked out as being the most efficient (of staff time) and that helps to keep the prices down.

Personally I prefer this system to the self-checkouts that other stores use to save money or the 'false' customer service in Asda where they ask if you want help with packing when you've only bought a bag of crisps!:rotfl:

P.S. Will check my receipts more regularly, thanks for reminding me.

I love the fast checkouts at Aldi and Lidl! drives me mad in the bigger supermarkets whilst the checkout person l..e..i..s..u..r..e..l..y... slides each item past whilst trying to make polite (insincere) conversation as per their training course.

I pack as I put into my bags kept in the car and often pick up a big fruit cardboard tray in Lidl to pack the heavier stuff in, if you leave it out in the rain a few days it goes so mushy its easy to squish in the recycle bin - and its free!

The bar codes on Aldi & Lidl products are specially engineered for faster scanning - that's how serious they are about it.

One tip - if you pay by Debit Card, you have an extra minute or so to finishing packing.

If you pay by debit card for a few items in my local Lidl though you get filthy looks for holding up the queue !
