Good point. Always check your reciept no matter where you shop (before you leave the store). In my experience Morrisons is the worst offender.

You are not supposed to pack your bags at the checkout. you are supposed to go to the packing shelf. tho if as another poster advises - you load the belt with items in the order in which they get packed - and keep your large bags (another essential) open in your trolley then it is possible to pack at checkout. I pack at the shelf - it also allows me to check the receipt before I leave the store. mistakes are rare, but are easily put right, and there is never a problem with this. you do not have to go to 'customer disservices' as the cashier will usually deal with it.
