Aldi - check your receipts!

I know it has been mentioned before that Aldi receipts sometimes throw up strange items but it has happened to me on my last 4 visits.

I spend around £50 there per week, today it came to £125! I was charged £37 each for two bags of apples. Spotted this at checkout obviously but after checking afterwards found i was also charged for a random bag of potatoes which i hadn't bought.

Sales assistant explained that they have to manually put through the fruit and veg and this appears to be the problem, last week i was charged for items i hadn't bought.

I am new to Aldi, i love the super six and save a lot on my previous Tesco shop BUT it takes so long checking receipt/getting refunds. The staff are rude, very rushed, scanning my items at superspeed is making the experience stressful especially as i am going out of my way to shop there.

I would imagine they are making a profit from people not checking/bothering to return to correct mistakes.

  • Hi there,

thanks for the tip off. I will check my receipts carefully now.

I quite agree with your points about Aldi. I find their goods are great quality and the prices are excellent, but I don't do much shopping there as I HATE then whole checkout experience. There isn't enough space to pack and the staff are clearly told to go hell for leather when scanning items. I'm a pretty fast packer, but I just can't keep up and as a result, I have had 2 episodes where I have left items behind (or possibly they have been pushed of the tiny packing area by the assistant). This makes a shop significantly more expensive.

If Aldi got their tills sorted out I would honestly do my main shop there and I bet I'm not alone in this. So please Aldi - LISTEN!

You are not supposed to pack your groceries at the till, you are supposed to put them back into your trolley and pack at the shelf. Not saying I agree but that is the system in order to make it faster and therefore cheaper.

Have had a few issues at my local Aldi when they have price reductions on selected lines. Quite a lot of them are going thru the till at their usual (higher) price. I feel embarrassed to point out the correct price and therefore keep the queue behind me waiting, whilst they correct the error.

Yes they have to input a code for some items.

This happened to me when the CA put the numbers the wrong way round.

I always check my receipts from anywhere shop anyway and it was not a problem when I went back the next time. They refunded me in full and let me keep the item for free.

I pick up one or more boxes from the shop floor to pack my purchases with at Lidl or Aldi.

Then I just pack as fast as the cashier swipes, and then I go to the shelf and check my receipt before I leave.

I have had errors in both hand-keyed fruit & veg codes, and with bar coded items. Having said that, and in my experience, the reliability of their charging is vastly better than Tescos. Where I used to shop they had an average of one error in their favour per fortnight.

I don't report errors in my favour.
  • i do my main shop in Aldi now.......but somethings dont work out cheaper but on whole I do feel I save money......regarding till speed......ive got to know the girls at my local Aldi and they suggested to me (after complaining how I hate the checkout part of Aldi) to put in my trolley a couple of the big reusable bags they have (or a large blue ikea one) and put your groceries in there, so packed and ready to go.......I do this and to be honest I ensure I dont just throw the stuff in....at the end of the day they still want our custom......If I put everything in trolley then had to go to the shelf to put in bags then out to my car it would take me much longer.........try it I find it really works....i too will be checking my receipts now!

I use the big bags, and place items on the conveyor in ready sorted manor, so they go into the bags the right way, ie heavy tins first....... fruit/cakes at end, that helps with speed. I hate it when my shopping hits the floor as they are pushing it off the end!

Not just Aldi but you should always check your receipt and don't assume that what you have been charged is what the product was selling for, error in pricing are made everywhere.
The onus is always on to the individual to check, takes seconds!

Just wonder though how many that complain of overcharging as are quick to report undercharged or none charged items?!

I would go nutz if checkout operator chucked my shopping on the floor. That would be the last time I would ever go there. They aren't like that in Lidl.

I recently did a mystery shop in Aldi and the checkout experience was fine apart from the cashier who clearly didn't want to be there. I shop regularly there and generally find it ok but ALWAYS check receipts.
