Paypal - what a joke - I have lost out big time - very unhappy!

Options
Well following on from my other thread...

Paid through paypal, seller put wrong email address by mistake.

Pay for item, money is unclaimed but email address is currently registered with paypal.

So no option of cancelling.

Ring paypal and I am told to email this other person(who isn't even in the same country apparently) and ask him to claim the payment then to refund me.

Paypal can't do a thing apparently.

So now I have lost out big time as my money is now in cyberspace or soon in the pocket of someone I don't know.

The money in my paypal account was from items I sold to raise money to buy my daughters some new clothes, so now they won't get their clothes as I have lost the money.

Surely this is a big flaw with paypal itself? The money is unclaimed so surely it is in paypal's system?

I just feel sick that I have lost the money and I have tried so hard to sell things to raise money to which it was a total waste of time and effort.

:(

  • Can you just open an item not received claim through Paypal and get your money refunded.

  • No as the payment is unclaimed :(

  • correct me if i'm wrong but unclaimed payments will be returned if 30? days pass-i have had this happen once to a payment i sent. It came back in the end.
If the person claims the money then you should file a non reciept case-just say you haven't had the goods you purchsed which is true.
You can still get your money back, keep calm.

This is nonsense. If the email is a valid paypal address, the payment would go in to their account, not remain as unclaimed. None of us ever have to do anything to "claim" a payment.
  • Sorry I am just having a bad day, had to go to the hospital due to complications in my pregnancy and it seems like everything is going wrong atm!

Ok so I have to wait 30 days to get the money back, seems like such a long time away - i will have given birth by then!

How shall I pay the seller - by gift payment by paypal? I know I won't be covered but I really want the items. I have been in contact with them and she has no idea why it has happened.

She sold a lot of items and most of them had the correct paypal address on them but a few didn't. She doesn't understand as they were listed all the same day.

This is the first time this has happened, I hope it doesn't happen again!

That's what I don't understand - according to paypal(when I phoned them) the person who I paid is in another country and their paypal doesn't accept pound sterling and that is why it's unclaimed.
    However their name sounds English.

  • Before you do anything else give ebay a call or go on live chat-explain that you paid via ebay and it's the sellers/ebays fault the payment has gone elsewhere. I'm not sure what they will do but they could offer some help (although take what they say with a pinch of salt, a lot of the advisors talk bull) I think the ireland call centre is best? Someone will correct me if i'm wrong i'm sure!
I would not pay via gift at all, you can go into your paypal account and send a payment to the correct address and mark the payment as goods. Enter a description and ebay item no in the message/notes so you can refer back to it and claim if you get diddled by the seller.

You will then have cover from both of the payment you have sent.

This happened to me, I sold a few items and or some bizarre reason my email address on PayPal reverted back to an old email address that I hadn't used in ages. None of the payments came through to me, I had to send out individual invoices. From what I remember the buyers payments never actually came through to me so hopefully your money will be back with you soon x

Have you logged in paypal? I thought you could cancel uncliamed money.

    I did last week.
  • I have paid the seller by paypal (as goods) to the correct email address.

I have been in contact with her and it's happened to 9 other items she was selling so I feel really bad for her. I am hoping the other people are as understanding as me.

It's strange that ebay did this, that half her listings had the paypal address aexample1@email.com and the other half annaexample1@email.com

The only difference is the correct one is the one with her first name and the incorrect had just the first initial.

She has never had the incorrect email address - according to paypal it belongs to andrew example and her name is anna and has never heard of andrew!

Sorry I obviously couldn't use real names but hope you know what I mean.
