I can receive e-mail and reply to same but how does one send an e-mail to a different address?

Well, to use the second way the contact has to have e-mail address added.
For the first way you have to be in the e-mail app.

Try asking more specific questions rather than "I can't", "No joy" and "I don't understand".

open the email app
Menu >> Compose?

OR

Contacts >> Contact >> Email?

OR
Top of screen +New message
Tap and enter the email address in the "to" box

Horace the respdondants were not being fascious, since you can reply back to emails, then everything is working fine.
'No joy' means it is something YOU are doing incorrectly, you have some fine helpers here, and the posters will need to want to succeed to succeed.
If you are sending to a new email address from compose, then you may have to add the email address manually, if the email address is added to a contact, then it's as simple and similar proceedure to sending a text message.
Which point are you failing at?

I must admit reading this it didn't make sense straight off to me either so I got my phone and followed the instructions,
'open email app' = easy,
'menu' = this is the button on the lower left of the screen opposite the back button (below the touch screen), if new to the phone the symbol isn't overly obvious. This brings up 6 options on the touch screen and
'compose' is the top centre option.
HTH
