Warning re paying Homeserve Membership Lt insurance policiesd

Options
Without the long story I owed Homeserve a one of payment which I paid by debit card yesterday.
They told me it had been authorized and they had 48 hours to take the money from my account.
I received a phone call this morning, apparently the payment had been refused.

Checked with my card provider and the reason they refused it was that Homeserve were asking for it as a recurring payment, not a one off one.
If they had accepted it Homeserve (whom I don't recommend anyway) could ask for that payment as many times as they want and it would be paid.

  • I gave up on emails to Homeserve Insurance long ago, I'm wasting my time with telephone calls now.
They are still requesting recurring payments and they are still being refused by my bank. It looks like they can't change their systems, that must be how they set everyone's payments up, which must make cancelling a policy difficult.

To anyone wanting to make a one off payment to them, I suggest a card that's due to expire shortly or a cheque, as they don't accept bank transfers.

Oh, and in the last week I have had three letters asking me to take out a policy with them, even though I have asked to be taken off their mailing lists.
