As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add it to the existing thread to keep recipe ideas together.:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0

Chocolate-Hazelnut Spread
Makes about 1 1/2 cups
2 cups whole raw hazelnuts
1 cup powdered sugar
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
up to 1/4 cup vegetable or nut oil
1/2 tsp vanilla extract- Preheat oven to 350° F. Place hazelnuts in a single layer on a shallow baking pan. Toast until the skins are almost black and the meat is dark brown, about 15 minutes. Stir the nuts halfway through baking to ensure an even color.
- To get rid of the bitter skins, wrap the cooled hazelnuts in a clean kitchen towel or paper towel. Rub until most of the skins come off, but don’t worry if some remain.
- Process nuts in a food processor, scraping down the sides of the bowl occasionally, until they have liquefied, about 5 minutes. First, you will get coarsely chopped nuts, then a fine meal. After a little while, the nuts will form a ball around the blade, and it will seem like you only have a solid mass. Keep processing. The heat and friction will extract the natural oils, and you will get hazelnut butter!
- When the nuts have liquified, add the sugar, cocoa and vanilla. Slowly drizzle in enough oil to make a spreadable consistency. Since the mixture is warm, it will be more fluid now than at room temperature.
- Transfer the spread to an airtight container, and store in the refrigerator for 1-2 months. For best results, stir the chocolate-hazelnut spread before using.

Pocketlady - sounds delish!
grandmasam - do you have a hazel / cobnut tree, or a friend that does? You are lucky if you do, hazlenuts are so expensive but also an amazing addition to deserts, or eaten alone as a snack. I would personally hoard them and eat them gradually over the winter (like a squirrel!).Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Lots of hazlenut trees round here and two in my garden, but scattered all round their bases are empty, nibbled shells - some ripe and brown, some still green, and the branches on the trees in my garden constantly bounce about as the army of squirrels strips off all the nuts. I don't think we're going to get any at all0

Can I bump this? Most of the recipes here are for nut spreads. The only one that doesn't seem to be is the wartime one, which doesn't sound overly tasty TBH.
Does anyone have a nice nut-free recipe please?Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...:D:D
