If he was on Incapacity Benefit he will be on ESA C and moving in with you will not affect his benefit (as long as he is in SG)

Whether he has been reassessed or not is not an indicator if it is WRAG or SG.

How long is it since he was on Incapacity Benefit? But even the answer to this question wil not help us... If he was put into WRAG, he may have been switched already to ESA IR after 365 days,

He should phone up ESA and ask them if he is
    ESA C or IR ?
    WRAG or SG ?

If he is on IR ESA the OP's income will be taken into account irrespective of which group he is in.

Ooops yes I was gettting carried away with the 365 days rule for WRAG and Support Group.

A phone call to your jobcentre plus will tell you. It sounds more llikely that he hasn't yet been assessed for either group yet, so there's no guarantee it will be the Support Group I'm afraid but that's a whole other story.
  • The Support Group award is up to £105.05 per week - may be some protected amount from IB

if you think of it another way, two can live much cheaper than one so the money that he would save from electricity/gas/internet/phone/food/council tax would outweigh the ESA he was receiving to pay all of that.
  • we'd manage, plenty people do on a lot less. It just hadn't occured to us that this would be the case. I don't think he has been assessed on the new system as yet when i've asked him.
