my partner receives ESA i think its income based. We are arranging for him to move in with me and our 7 week old daughter but is it right that he will lose his benefit as I work? I'm a teacher.

If its income based then yes he will. You are a couple it is your responsibility to support him in his time of need."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

If it is ESA IR and you do work 24 hours or more then yes, he will lose it. If less than 24hours then it will be reduced by your income down to £0.000

that's what i feared. I'm in a substantial amount of debt and clearing it with a debt management plan i will need to vastly reduce payments in order to support us all0

To give your daughter a stable family life will be well worth losing the money. Is there no way he can do some work, even part time?0

we may need to look into that now. He broke his back years ago and now has arthritis in his spine - constant pain. Any work would also need to be when i was home so he can look after our daughter. Being a grownup is so complicated!!! if i didn't have the debt from before we met then we could manage.0

The important thing is to find out if he's on IR ESA. Is he in the WRAG or Support Group. If he's in the Support Group your income will not affect his benefit.
If he's in the WRAG he'd ony be getting the benfit for 365 days. So those are the questions that need answering before you can really sort out what you will and won't have coming in.
He should be able to find this out from his award notice. Good luck.0 -

Good point, I do forget about the Support Group exemption.0 -
he's been on incapacity since accident in 1996 and he thinks it will be the support group as he's not been re assessed since it switched. He gets £220 a fortnight does this sound right for supprt group? I been trying to find answers on web but so confusing!0

If he is on IR ESA the OP's income will be taken into account irrespective of which group he is in.0 -

The amount does not help - that is the transitional amount for those on long term IB.0
