Civil aviation authority responses

Options
Has anyone had experience of contacting the CAA? I emailed them on 4/1/13 after I had no joy trying to claim for a delayed flight with LOT Airlines. I received an automated response but heard nothing else. I emailed again 3 weeks later and had the same automated response. It is now 6 weeks since my initial contact and I have heard nothing more from the CAA. Any idea how long they take to answer?
Thanks

  • About 18-20 weeks

I had a first response telling me they had written to the airline within two weeks.
  • I had an email saying they would reply within 8 weeks!
  • I got a reply from the CAA basically saying that I needed to send all of the information to the National Enforcement Body (NEB) responsible in the country that the incident occurred and that the NEB would then take any action necessary.

Wasn't as helpful as I thought they were going to be, as I thought they would take some steps to get it resolved for me themselves?

NEB Spain say they will respond within one month - they did however as airline had not responded to them the NEB merely said .... we apologise however the airline in question have failed to co-operate!

Here is my post about contact with the CAA:

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/59223979#Comment_59223979

It took several weeks to get a reply, and this is what they said (my emphasis):

"We will investigate your complaint and to do that we will need to request some further information from the airline. Once we receive that information, and based on that and any other information available to us, we will take a view, (alongside technical expertise from other colleagues within the CAA), on whether we consider the airline’s claim of extraordinary circumstances to be reasonable. If an airline gives us information which is confidential, we will not be able to share that with you. As I am sure you will understand, an investigation of this nature will take months rather than weeks, so we would ask for your patience while we give full attention to your claim."

So you need to wait quite a while for the CAA to respond, and if the airline cite extraordinary circumstanes, you will need to wait some months more. Personally, I'd just crack on with the court action - not least as it is unclear how "friendly" the CAA really are being with passengers.

How independant can the CAA be if Monarch have an ex CAA Board member as a non exec? :rotfl:

From June last year ..... "Monarch Group has appointed two senior aviation figures to the company’s board. Former Civil Aviation Authority chairman Sir Roy McNulty and former head of British Midland (BMI) Austin Reid will join Monarch in July as non-executive directors."
  • I took up a case of cancelled Lufhansa flight with CAA. After a lot of emailng and delay I got a reply supporting the airline. No reasons were given for this decision nor were my comments answered. I thınk from the above postings there would be a chance for success in a class action against the CAA for breech of statutory duties. Anyone up for it?
  • I have also been turned down by KLM claiming 'extraordinary' circumstances for our 8 hour delay.

Does anyone have the address to write to for the CAA and everyone that has written to them sent it by recorded delivery?

    Many thanks
    Adrian

CAA address etc on KLM page > https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4384719

Recorded not required - email sufficient but you can post if required and as it is for free you may as well get proof of posting.
