The very worst advice, anyone can see why this is wrong, for example if you say you cant do something at all then get caught doing it you can end up on the wrong side of a judge, if you say you can do something some of the time then you cant be accused of lying.

So you did a Q&A exercise to get the best supporting statement for your claim?

Thats unbeliveable, anyone can ask a random selection of the public to support a benefit claim, people who are entitled to benefits normally dont have to scrape around for supporting evidence to support their claims.

You're supposed to get supporting statements from people who help you. To say they done it to get the best one is a sad outlook. You don't need to, but obviously it helps your claim if you do. How you can think that way of a disabled person is pretty sad! Dori2o has outlined their disability comprehensively on these forums, without the need to get the best statement :wall:

OP tbh the person in question shouldn't have given you the form. All you can do is fill in the part that you should to the best of your ability/knowledge.

To quote from the relevant page : Please note that this page does not have to be filled in.
If you do want this statement to be filled in, the best person to do it is the one who is
most involved with your treatment or care. This may be someone you have already told
    us about on the form.
If you are signing the form on behalf of the disabled person, please get someone else to fill in this section.

    Actually no.

I handed out 3 copies of the page. 1 to my immediate manager, 1 to my managers manager, and 1 to a friend. All 3 went in with the claim form, along with the page in the actual form being completed by my wife, who is the person who is most involved with my care/mobility needs. You can see them if you wish. I also had letters from my GP, specialist and psychologist.

The aim of giving them a seperate page was as follows.

1, as I said there was some very personal stuff in that form Bank details included. Plus details of my bathing and toileting problems that I actually didn't want people to know about.

2, I wanted their opinion, not for them to offer an opinion, or to change their opinion based on what was already on the form.

However, as far as I know, there is nothing wrong with people cherry picking personal statements. Most people use a partner as their 'person who knows you', is that completely without bias? You can choose whoever you want to make that statement, you can even write the statement and ask someone to sign it, in a way you do cherry pick when you choose the person to fill in that page.

You are highly unlikely to choose someone who would deny all your claims.

I didn't cherry pick. I didn't need to. It is quite clear to everyone who sees me what my problems are, which is why I was awarded HRM.

  • I agree that the OP should mind their own business and stop casting judgement on something they don't have all the facts about. Another case of having too much time on their hands. I sense animosity towards the other parent. Be very careful of reporting something you do not have all the facts about. It will only cause resentment.

Maybe the op is concerned that the form not being filled in correctly which may result in a negative impact on the child. If the parent hasn't ticked the correct box re the statment and therefore not sent it in. Surely the childs welfare is prime priority.
Play nice  Just because I am paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get me.:j
  • I'd leave it for fear that they may just turn it around on you, you need the job, they don't just need you.

Amazes me that so many people on this thread would be happy to be complicit in possible benefit fraud. Benefit fraud is EVERYONE'S business.

All I would say to the OP is to seek advice from a manager and if you do complete the form then do it honestly as you see the child's capabilities.

It may not be fraud though... Who's to say the child hasn't worn themselves out so much at school that they can't do these things at home?

I know several bendy children who have tried so hard to be normal at school that they are totally wiped out by the time they come home that they can barely walk the length of themselves.

But then again it may well be fraud mightn't it? Should a blind eye be turned?

I used to work 12 hour night shifts, on my feet all the time. I used to have to sit down for 15 minutes or so before i had the energy to go home and was then fit for nothing except falling into bed. Didn't mean i was disabled though.

What about holidays and weekends when these children aren't wearing themselves out at school?

While people are prepared to always look for excuses and not accept that some people exaggerate and downright lie on application forms and to doctors then fraud will continue. It will be the genuine though that will pay the price.

OP - considering the child's mother gave you the whole completed form, either :

    - they totally trusted you not to read it

    OR

    - they have only told the whole truth in the form.

personally i think you should mind your own. sorry.

    .
Or a dozen or so other possibilities.

    :)

They don't care what the OP thought. It didn't occur they might look. It didn't seem relevant. They are so confident they don't think it would matter. They were completely prepared for them to look but, after all, they're only involved in a small part of the overall picture. etc etc
