Comp if part of journey cancelled after diversion?

Hi,looking for some advice. Myself and hubby travelled Orlando-London Gatwick with BA and on thru tickets, then travelled on to Glasgow, same airline all the way, however after 2 attempts at landing the captain diverted back to London Gatwick-seems extreme i know but it was the day of the locally named Hurricane Bawbag hit Scotland.
BA were great and re-booked us for the following day as well as putting us up in a local hotel and feeding us but,we did not get home until over 24hrs late.
I see by the new regs that bad weather does not get paid out but,the airline obviously thought it wasn't that bad or would have cancelled before we took off not diverted back to LGW and then cancelled the flight.
My query is,do we claim under cancellation or diversion or what?
Thanks for your advice ladies and gents...
Trying to be good:A... not too good:naughty:... just a bit good!;)
