I'd love to be able to spend 50 pound per week - but after I've spent money on the milkman, made packed lunches and entertained a few friends - its a real struggle. There are areas where I think I could cut down - wine with dinner, milkt from the milkman, fruit but I try when I can - main meals or all four, no junk food, homemade cakes and biscuits, its hard!!0

I spend about £200 per month on food, household & toiletries, pre MSE I spent £360 in one month alone  ( which probably had take aways on top too ) this is for myself, my DD & DDog. DD eats the most and eats the most expensive stuff too. I am just getting back into budgetting and meal planning and I have some veggies growing in my garden so hopefully this amount will reduce during the summer months. I know I could cut back from £200 per month but I try to get organic wherever possible which can work out more expensive. I tried going to a market garden for veggies but really didnt see any difference in costs. I even tried getting organic veggies delivered but the last one I got was disgusting and I vowed never to use them again. Mr Tesco's still has me in his grips I am afraid. Official DFW Nerd Club Member #37 Debt free Feb 07 :cool:0

I try to keep my shopping within a budget but have never succeeded. This month I plan to stay within my budget of £85 for me. Seems like a lot compared to others here. This is for groceries, meals out (odd lunch with friends) toiletries, garden stuff and anything else that comes along. I've withdrawn the cash and will see if that helps.0

I am in awe... we average around £60 a week for just 2 of us, for everything. Having said that, it's not helped by trying to buy local and organic etc...0

I love this website. We have been doing the grocery challenge (although not actually posting in the threads) and aiming for £45 per week for two of us. For the past 12 weeks our average has been £45.74 per week so we are not doing too badly. This figure includes things like washing powder, shower gel, loo rolls etc as well as the odd bottle of wine. We like to eat healthily and we do a lot of batch cooking but we are not vegetarian, although we do eat quite a lot of veggie food.0

Hello-in our house there's two adults (me n hubby), two cats, hamster and fish (!)......
we go main shopping once a fortnight, and aim to spend no more then £50. This fluctutates slightly depending on if i need washing powder/womens things/stock up on offers in reduced secction that i freeze. We do get certain things from other shops ie loo rolls, cat biscuits and the fish stuff-but only because it is cheaper elsewhere.
We've just had to work out a new budget, as our aim is to get rid of my overdraft, one other remaining debt and save slightly more each month. But £50 a fortnight is fine-our cupboards are never empty and i always have fresh fruit n veg, but combine with a few frozen things too.

Myself and my OH spend about £120 a month, spread out as:
£90 ish in Sainsburys on big shop
£10 ish at Farmers Market (veg, wild boar sausages, juice - whatever we fancy)
£5 ish in 99p shop (if I go down that way - cling film, bathroom wipes, that sorta thing)
£10 top up shop in Somerfield
£10 in Superdrug / Boots on Bubblebath, deoderant, etc
So say £130 to be on the safe side. Could be less, but i love cooking and we both have packed lunches and nice fruit juices.0 -
Including delivery its about £37 for two of us. I justify the delivery expenditure with the following:
1) The other half is terrible with the impulse buys. One week we spent £66 on a shop visit. The little extras soon add up.
2) It takes quite a bit of time and effort on my part to carry this stuff. I dont own a car so my time has its own value £x per hour if you like.
The benefit of this is we get our stuff delivered pretty much when we want and it aids sticking to a strict diet. I'd advise the same with online shopping as with going to a supermarket. Dont do it when you're hungry.0 -
I usually spend about £130 a week for food, toiletries, cleaning etc, 2 adults, 4 children (3-9, 1 in pullups).
Trying to reduce that now as hubby is quitting work. Hoping to reduce it to £80The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 10
