how much do you spend on your weekly/monthly shop?

I've noticed on the threads that a lot of folk do a big monthly shop and then get bits weekly.

How much do you spend on your weekly shop/monthly shop and what do you get?

Mr onamission is vegan and i'm veggie so we buy lots of fresh veg/fruit. crackers, tinned tomatoes etc weekly as we cook everything from scratch.
I've worked out that we spend approx £40 a week. I do a "bigger" shop once a month where i get (value) toilet roll, cleaners, toiletries etc and that is just short of £60.

I was wondering how much you guys spend generally as I have no idea if that is a lot and as mr o is the cook I want to discuss meal planning etc with him....

Before using this site we were spending an average of £330 a month on food (worked out from last year's bank statements) :eek:

These days we're spending around £200 a month. This breaks down to about £70-£90 on tins, jars and cleaning stuff etc (the big shop stuff including all non-alcoholic drinks), £10-£15 a week f&v and another £10 pw splurging at M&S. I think these proportions will change over the summer though since I tend to eat a lot more fresh veg rather than frozen.

When I think of it we do tend to feed anyone who drops in so maybe this is a bit higher than it might otherwise be.

This month I'm aiming for £120-£150, keeping everything crossed that I can stick to it!

At the moment I'm on about £80 per week for a family of 5 plus 2 cats. I'm really doing my best to reduce this down to £50 a week though.

At the moment about £70pw for 3 adults 2 teens and 1 cat I do find it a struggle which is why I spend most of the day on here picking up tips, I normally do a monthly shop from Mr T tinned stuff, pasta rice cat food toilet rolls etc for about £60 -£70 then take that off weekly figure normlly ending up with then about £55 I fnd this is the easiest way for me.

OH and I haven't been together long so we're still 'experimenting' with the whole shopping thing. Currently we appear to be spending about £46 a week (OH is computer whizz and has devised spreadsheet for working out such things!!!!), which includes 2 adults, 2 dogs, 1 cat, a taste for beer (this might have to go in a seperate budget!) and part of a teenager (better explain that one - trying to teach DS to budget and take more responsibility so he has his own food budget and does his own shopping, alongside ours, according to his tastes. However, basics - like milk, bread, etc we buy). Hope to reduce this £46 to around £40 before long.

I'm about the same (when I stick to my budget! )... I do wonder if I'm going to turn into a packet of 16p spaghetti though :rolleyes:

We aim to spend £32 a week on food, cleaning and toiletries for me, DH, 5 kids and a dog. This has come down a lot from pre-MSE days (easily £700 a month!), but does take a lot of planning and supplementing with home-grown / wild food when available.

When I am not on such a tight budget and am just being careful then I can spend around £45 a week - but this is very rare.
