It's not very precise, I'm afraid!!

Baisically pick about 1/2 carrier bag of nettle tips and wash them (they don't lose the sting so wear gloves!!). Fry a large onion and when soft throw in some veg stock, the nettles and around four large potatos which have been chopped. When potatos are cooked, blend the whole lot down and then add some pre-soaked and cooked butter beans (I usually have some frozen so they can be chucked into soups and stews). When heated through, put the lid on the pan and leave for an hour or so to let the flavours 'mingle'.

As I said, not very precise - sorry:D. I guess that you could add cream at the end if you wanted it to be a creamy soup, but the potatos make it lovely and thick, anyway.

    Hiya!

We have just increased our weekly budget to about £30-£40 for the 3 of us. We can easily get it to £25pw if we wanted, but our financial situation is better now to 12-18 months ago:D ....some weeks may be more (if certain items need replacing) or less if we have everything in.

Meal planning is the key to getting a low budget but still eating well.

We eat very well and have alot of fruit and veg, eat wholesome food and cook mainly from scratch. I batch cook sometimes and freeze the extra and we also freeze leftovers or eat for lunch the next day, so we rarely throw food away.

If we have loads of eggs left, I make a couple of quiches and freeze into portions for the 3 of us so we have a main part of meal and serve with a baked spud and salad. Any fresh veg left is made into a soup with a stock cube and we freeze excess for lunches or if feeling posh...a starter!

We dont like BM bread, so we buy decent quality wholemeal or granary bread (Warburtons etc) and buy when reduced to 15p a loaf instead of £1.20 a loaf and freeze.

Milk is bought reduced and frozen.

There are three adults and a four year old here and my budget for the last two months has been €400 (about£272) per month which I have managed to stick to, in spite of having the rest of the family (4 adults, 2x2year olds) for a week..to be fair, they did chip in and buy extra food which meant that I didn't have to dig any deeper than I wanted to. The fact that the garden is producing salad leaves, broccoli, spinach, salad onions and rhubarb is also a great help. Will be on holiday for three weeks of next month so will not participate in challenge, but for July I plan on trying to knock a bit off that €400..we'll see how it goes.

    Good luck to all

    Hi
There are 4 of us and since joining this site I've managed to reduce my monthly buget to £200. I know I could spend less than this if I cut out some of the luxuries like olives, smelly cheeses and cereal etc. But life is too short and I love all of my food!
Make a list of what you already have, make a meal plan, write a shopping list and stick to it. Oh yes, and always pay with cash NEVER plastic.

£200 a month for 2 of us atm inc everything, including £50 a month on alcohol (we never go out!) it used to be £310 a month min. all meat is from a farm, veg from market, cheese from the cheese man :rotfl:

it'll go down once we have a larger freezer, space to make our own wine and room to grow more than we currently do :D (about to move house)

    Hi
Oh yes, and always pay with cash NEVER plastic.

I used to think paying with cash was the best way but since reading Martin's Money Diet book I have moved my credit card (I always pay off in full each month) to one which pays me to spend (1% of the first £2000 and 0.5% after that). I have already earned a tidy little sum which will be paid out just before Christmas and is earmarked for presents. OH and I both have one and we have started paying for everything with our cards - even tiny train fares. We are on a tightish budget so every little helps.
Our monthly food spend for two vegetarian adults, one teenager and one cat is £200 which would be even less if I dropped the milk delivery and went for supermarket milk but am resisting that economy for the moment. That sum includes one meal out a month but not OH's forays to the pub to celebrate Sunderland's successes.

This week (first weekly shop in 6+ months) I spent c.£40 for one person, which is Not Good. On the plus side I bought a few storecupboard ingredients - herbs, olive oil, tahini etc. On the minus side I've run out of fresh veggies already, even though the food was supposed to last until the end of next Friday. I think I need to head over to the Grocery Challenge thread......

I'm vegan, I buy for myself and 3 mice. I buy everyting I need for about £40/month on food alone. House hold and personal items goes from £5 to £10/month at most which is a different budget.

This month I am also buying food for my boyfriend as he has little money due to bank over chargin him and I've given him a £40 budget like I have to get all his food with. I eat organic produce where as my boyfriend doesn't and he is an omnivore so he should be fine to buy his meat from the butchers when he needs it on the budget.

I have a tesco online shop to go through the cheekout (have to pay my ma back after she does it tomorrow as it doesn't except my card  ) and it comes to £44 including delivery as I found a £10 off a £50 code on here earlier :j (hope it works tommorow). That covers about 2-3 weeks worth of food for him depending. I'd say I probably have 2 weeks worth of my fresh produce stuff and about a month for the other stuff.

I usually buy weekely but am going to give a go to bulk buy first and then the odd shop when I need something to see how well it works.
I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy :D
