Where I live a house like this would be on the market for around £300k. It just goes to show what a huge gap there is between north and south in this country.

Indeed there is....the beach is only a 5 min walk from the house! We probably will get to a sensible offer in the end. Still very new at this! :)
  • Well good luck with it all :) I can see what you mean about the design of the houses being all very similar it was clearly all developed around the same time.
The most wasted day is one in which we have not laughed.

To be fair the southern equivilent of Walney Island is somewhere like Romney Marsh and you can probably buy a similar property there for 120K
  • like one of the posters says i would offer 100k for it..

I know the area and it is a lovely place not been for many years though.

Well the first offer was rejected, or so they say. We had two more viewings today with the same EA, I mentioned about our silly offer and basically said that I was always taught, if you don't ask you don't get. EA then said that they didn't think that the vendor would accept the offer.....confused .com

I have a sneaky feeling that they have not yet put the offer to the vendor and by the EA rejecting it straight away are hoping that we will up our offer and then keep trying to get it up this way.

We are going to wait 2 to 3 weeks to see if a counter offer comes back.

Sneaky tactics from the EA...however I'm enjoying all this now.
    :)
  • Fair enough, it's miles from anywhere and if BAE folds because UK can't afford any more subs, then Barrow will be a ghost town (unless gas fracking greats an energy boom in the NW around Morcambe Bay)

That said, the pebbledash looks newish, UPVC DG done, good size rooms. The bargain bucket price will likely be set by the rental yield for cockle pickers after a cheap'n'cheerful refurb.

If it did fold then perhaps the town would finally move away from being stubbornly industrialised. I have only been in the area for a couple of years, and can see it has real potential, just need vision and some decent investment....the local council have no clue though, the town planners are even worse! It has a healthy population of near 80000 people, with a lot of affluent areas. I think it gets overlooked as its tucked away in a little north west corner.
  • Well viewed another house yesterday, close to the original one. The same design and the same size, with a garage and has space on the side to build the extension that we would like. Not too much to do inside, just re-decorating and a central heating system. Its been marketed for 110k so may go in with a 25% lower offer as a starting point to negotiate upwards.

And it has a Monkey Tree in the garden!

And in other areas, this would be regarded as hugely overpriced.....

Here's a 3 bed semi for a third of the price......

The smaller the monkey the more it looks like it would kill you at the first given opportunity.

You mean a Monkey Puzzle tree? If so, beware.

These things grow huge. They are slow growing (to grow to 10m takes about 30 years) but they are known to grow to over 50m (150ft)

To be honest it would be something that we would get rid off as it is growing right in the middle of the garden and is already some height!
