Alfa Romeo 147

Couldn't see a motor board on here, so thought I would stick this here.

We've been having an awful lot of trouble with cars recently, but too long to go into. Basically we have £6,500 to spend on a car and this is what bf has decided on, but he's heard that sometimes they have problems with them, so I just wondered if anyone has one that can help either swing to buy one, or swing in the direction of a different car.

There is a motoring board in the travel section.

Whilst Alfas are good to drive they have a terrible reputation for reliability. The engines and gearboxes tend to be OK and the bodies don't rust like they used to but the electrics are not very good.

A colleague has a GTV and he has a lot of electrical problems, the heated rear window doesn't work. He's had problems with the windows and stereo.

I like Alfas but I wouldn't buy one if you're looking for a reliable trouble free car.

Have a look here for more info

Thank you very much. Oops, guess I didn't look hard enough. Oh well, I'll pass the info on to him and maybe he'll choose a Mondeo instead. Might save us some money. He was also talking about Mazda 6, whatever that is.

Love Alfas myself. Only downside is repairs and parts can be expensive if anything does go wrong.
One day I might be more organised...........

dont be put off the alfas we've had five in total and loved them, still got three of them ! repairs are only expensive if you use an alfa dealership (known on the web as stealerships). have a look in on https://www.alfaowner.com and talk to lots of enthusiasts and owners. We only buy second hand alfas that someone else has spent money on and sorted out any 'problems'. they are excellent if you get a sorted one. Enjoy.

We have a 156 and will shortly be getting rid, only because it's become too big for needs.

I love it to bits and will be sorry to see it go.

Generally it has been a very reliable car.
