Hotel refused my booking thru lastminute.com

Hi
This thread is on behalf of my friend.
She booked an overnight stay for her daughter's 18th along with 4 of her friends through last minute.com via her mobile phone. The booking was confirmed by the agent for a hotel at a famous resort on the north west coast. A payment of £80 was taken via her card.
An hour later the hotel manager rang my friend to query whether the "party" was all females, to which she confirmed they were. The manager then refused the booking,(no same sex parties) and stated she should take the complaint of refund back to the agent.
Since the booking, she has referred this to the trading standards and I have written a letter on her behalf stating that the agent should have been fully aware of the hotel policy and advising respectively to the customer of any alternatives - before taking payment!
Today she has received a reply, stating that they accept part responsibility and have offered £40 refund. I believe she is entitled to the full amount based on their duty to advise at the point of booking.
Any ideas please?
thanks

If it was Blackpool, your friend should be thankful it was cancelled ! I'd be horrified to think my daughter was going there.
Has your friend checked the t & c's on Lastminutes website, it's sometimes difficult to check things like this on a mobile.0 -
Has she contacted Lastminute.com at all? That is who she paid, NOT the hotel.
How did she pay? Credit card?
If so, contact the card provider and request that the transaction is reversed due to the booking not being honoured.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -

lucky escape, exactly, couldnt agree more.
I will never ever visit Blackpool again for as long as I live.
Effing and blinding drunks, drinking pints outside the pubs, chucking their fag ends all over the place, shouting and bawling obscenities to passers by and that's just the WOMEN.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
spot on with the resort - i agree, even the seagulls have tattoos!
All comms have been direct to last minute.com. I am not sure what kind of card she used - will check.
thanks0 -
If they have cancelled the booking then they need to provide a full refund, not just half the money back.
As said above, if no joy with LastMinute, talk to the card provider.0 -
she used debit card. I agree last minute should refund the lot. It was the actual hotel who made contact with her and cancelled the booking. lastminute should have been aware prior to payment.0

Sounds like the hotel owner needs to read up on the law relating to sex discrimination0

I doubt that's relevant as I assume they discriminate against both same sex groups. Not just all female groups. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Doesn't matter, it's still discrimination based on gender (and indirectly it would class as discrimination based on sexual orientation, since the policy would forbid gay couples from holidaying together)0 -
Only if their definition of 'group' is 'more than one'....and indirectly it would class as discrimination based on sexual orientation, since the policy would forbid gay couples from holidaying together
Quite likely that two people are considered a couple, and a group is three or more.0
