Possible to unlock N73 without knowing mobile number?

Does anyone know whether it is possible to unlock a Nokia N73 without knowing the original phone number it came with? (ie will a network unlock it without a phone number, or alternatively can a market stall unlock it?)

The situation is i'm bidding on an N73 on ebay which sounds like its locked, so if I buy it, and it is locked, then I can't ring up the network and give them any phone number details as I won't know the details!

You will need to get th person you are buying the phone off to unlock it for you from the network, no market stall can unlock them, some claim to but they cant. Ask the seller if you can pay them for the unlocking code and add it on to the final auction price.

The seller seems pretty clueless as he says he "doesn't know" whether it is locked, and thinks it "probably isn't". I think I'll steer clear in that case!
