eBay Payment by Bank Transfer (international)

I am selling an item on ebay but I have listed it as UK only. Today I have received an offer from a buyer in France and we agreed I would send it to him if he paid by Bank Transfer. He wants me to send the item to his mother also in France which set alarm bells ringing for me.

If I receive the payment into my bank account, is there any way for him to reverse the transaction?

I believe international transfers are the same as UK and impossible to reverse.

What you need to avoid is your buyer or you incurring bank charges. If your buyer asks a French bank to pay you in Pounds it will probably cost them a fee. It is best to get them to pay the equivalent in Euros and for you to check with your bank that there will be no charges this end.

You will need to send them the IBAN number for your account. It is possibly on your bank statements or you may need to call your bank.

If the transaction came from a stolen/hacked account then it can always be taken back regardless of any supposed bank processing timescale.

I'd make a judgement based on:
    -feedback profile
    -value of item
    -desirability / resaleability of item
-is there a good reason why paypal isn't suitable.
Even a token payment of £1 will tell you whether they have a confirmed address with paypal. I'd consider Posting only to that address.

Everyone keeps saying a bank transfer is 100% safe but as above i cannot see that.

So if someone uses your account to transfer money without your knowledge its tough luck you lost it? Or the bank takes the hit?

If its 100% safe anyone want to send me the entire contents of their savings? I will give you 80% back. Hows that for a great business plan? :)

You should ring your bank. Once cleared, a bank transfer cannot be reversed. And yes - the bank sometimes takes the hit if you can prove you were not careless with your account.

I wouldnt be worried about the things you have mentioned as once the money is in your account it is safer than paypal for the seller. However I think you will be charged commission for the currency exchange by your own bank.
IBAN number can be found at the bottom of your statement and online statement if you bank online.
  • I'm no expert, but can't they say they didn't receive the item and then paypal side with them because you won't have posted it to the registered paypal address?

    I'd be wary too..

But why would Paypal get involved when it's a Bank Transfer? It's nothing to do with them!
  • Apologies, I guess I mean ebay, so they could do an item not received thing right? But I guess that would only affect ebay feedback and couldn't force a refund???

Sorry I'm not meaning to confuse the issue! I'm def not an expert.. :)

i would be very worried about sending the item as if they claim they did not recieve it you cannot track the item, and you will be liable to refund them via e bay rules!!!! personnally i never ever send anything i sell out of the uk as i cannot send it tracked.
    just beware
if you do send it tracked it would cost you arm and a leg !!!!

What is wrong with you people? You clearly don't have a clue what you are talking about - so leave it alone.
