Wireless pc???

I have a newish Zoostorm pc that I bought maybe 4 months ago. I do not think there is a wireless capability and Im thinking of going wireless rather than having my sky hub connected to the pc, I think im having issues with the secondary phone socket so need to go wireless to make Sky happy for them to continue with my issue, they refuse to help if I do not go through everything they suggest, basically im having internet losage my connection is dropping.

Anyway. I need to buy something to put into my pc so I can get wireless internet. not sure what im looking for but I guess I need some wireless hardware.

Can anyone suggest something that will let my pc pick up wireless internet. Something easy to install

    wireless usb dongle

the diagnosis of your issue shouldn't require you to disconnect the router for so long that you have to buy new hardware. have you removed the bell wire.

The bell wire went years ago I have to get wireless as sky want me to pay for an engineer to look at the secondary socket, they will only do the master one for free. I know there is !!!!!! all wrong with the socket but have to satisfy them

  • Surely what Sky are advocating is that you plug your router into the master socket , wireless is another thing that can go wrong, no need to buy a dongle or to use wireless at all, it's because their help desk has to follow their procedures, can you not wire the PC up to the router , with the router in the master socket (temporarily of course if it's a logistics thing i.e. cables all over the floor etc)
Oh and have you got filters on all extensions ?

The master socket is over the other side of the house, the cables are only 6 foot long at the most so cant get things over to the master socket. Did tell the very nice Indian call centre woman that I could knock a few walls down to get closer, she did not advise me to do that either.

However, a 50m patch lead, terminated, is less than twenty quid.

Long distances with intervening walls are a recipe for a follow up post asking how to get the WiFi working faster than a couple of Mbps. Try eBay for an ethernet patch lead - this 20m grey one is £2.19 posted.

When you connect the router to the master socket remove the faceplate and use the inner socket as that will completely eliminate the extension. If the extension is left connected you won't be proving anything.

Only the master socket and the wiring up to it is the responsibility of your line rental provider. All extensions and extension wiring are the responsibility of the owner or occupier.
If your machine is not wireless (simply look in Device Manager and post what it says there in the relvant section) you need either a USB wireless adapter or a wireless PCI card.
