On nPower Juice? Check you've been given discounts due to you!
Options
I signed up to nPower "juice" in July 2011 - part of the reason I did so was that they were offering two £100 discounts, one for paying by DD for a year and the other called the "Green Energy Bonus".
(Mentioned here)
However, when I checked whether these had actually been paid, it turned out that the "Green Energy Bonus" had not. Various phone calls to nPower resulted in me being given conflicting advice on whether I was due it and when it was going to be paid.
When i finally raised it as a complaint, nPower told me that I was not due it, claiming that it was not offered until after I had signed my contract. Luckily however I have a printout of the T&Cs from the nPower website at the point when I signed up, and as far as I can see it's pretty clear that I was due it.
nPower have now agreed to pay me the £100 plus an extra £30 compensation for the hassle, although they were still saying that in their opinion I am not technically due it.
Although as a matter of principle I'd rather have taken this further (it seems like a serious breach of trust to me) I accepted this offer because I don't really have the time to pursue it.
But, if this has happened to me it may also have happened to lots of other people that signed up around the same time so it may well be checking if you're one of those - npower shouldn't be allowed to get away with this kind of thing.
There is of course the possibility that I have misunderstood but the T&Cs I have seem fairly clear - if you:
- were a new customer
- are a dual fuel customer
- gas on standard tariff
- electricity on either "Juice" or "National Trust Green Energy" tariff
- signed contract March - September 2011
- stayed on those tariffs for at least a year
then you became entitled to your £100 green energy bonus on the first anniversary of signing your contract and it should have shown in your first bill after that date.
If anyone else was due this and didn't get it, I'd be interested to hear.
