Npower switch - £200 bonus

My BG websaver dual fuel plan ended on 30 April and so the timing was perfect for changing for us. When approached at the Grand Designs exhibition by NPower asking if we'd consider switching we concluded by doing so.

Has anyone else looked at their £100 Green Energy and £100 direct debit bonus plan and have any advise? To us it looks like this is the best deal as with 1200kwh elec and 4000kwh gas spend in the past year (March-March) there don't appear to be any bigger savings to be made elsewhere.

I think it's a good deal - but am ready to be told otherwise as we have the 28 day cooling off period ahead of us.

As you have low useage Npower's tariffs are a reasonable bet due to their large flat-rate rather than pro rata discounts. Note, however, that it is a variable tariff so you will have to accommodate the inevitable increase and hold out for the full twelve months to ensure the bonuses. At least you applied in person so should not have the difficulties online applicants have with the joining bonus.

You have to pay by direct debit they only give you £200 at the end of 2 years, i was told that i could pay by cash, quarterly, and qualify for this bonus, i told the rep i would be paying by fortnightly installments on a reading every 3 months, npower sales team said on the phone that this was fine and i qualify.

Now today i been told "We apologise there seems to have been a small mistake, you must pay by direct debit every quarter of the sum outstanding on your meter, in one lump sum, no weekly or fortnightly payments"

So, now i am stuck again looking for a supplier. I am tired of lying reps telling me crap.
    Owed out = lots.

    Hi Widelats

I'm really sorry to hear about this, can I look into this for you as the information they gave you is clearly incorrect. To qualify for the full bonus, you would need to pay by direct debit continuously for 12 months - either by monthly or quarterly payments.

If you're paying by cash each fortnight, you'll only receive £10 discount.

I'm quite concerned to see this and would like to investigate for you - would you mind forwarding your details to forumresponse@npower.com please?

    Thanks,
    Sally :)

Hi, i have a red book or welcome pack here

    adviser pin D20417

electricity kwh 342 (bill available ticked as confirmation)
gas kwh 900 (bill available ticked as confirmation)

    estimated cost

annual npower estimated cost Electric £13 Gas £12

    Total both fuels £25
    Estimated cost 1 year £105

    Then it has -80

Direct debit section is blank, told i can pay quarterly, and with the 12 month bonus of £200 i would be getting free gas and electric.

Your calls are recorded, i would suggest you pull this phone call from the database and have a listen to her on the phone saying "welcome to npower, has your rep there filled in a application pack? Are you happy with what the rep has told you? I confirm you are elegible for our bonus of £200" then the call will have the rep on it saying "Ha ha ha ha, you should have said enjoy your free gas and electric you are getting its very low use, the bonus after 12 months will pay for all the bills"

no reference number is on the pack, nor a valid date.
