Stay away from RISE.
Absolutely totally don't take it out and close it at once if they've opened an account for you.
You've seen their charges, right? That they charge you even if you don't use the card? And even more if you use it, irrespective of whether or not you pay it in full?
It's the closest thing to legalised daylight robbery since Provident loans, but of course a RISE card is in fact MORE EXPENSIVE than a Provident loan.
If you take out the Capital One card and clear the balance in full every month, you won't pay a penny interest, and you will get all of your money back after six months.
Whereas if you use a RISE card, after six months you'll be anything from £21, to many hundreds of pounds out of pocket.
It's all well and good saying stay away from RISE when people have better credit ratings, and get better credit APR offers. But when you have little or no credit rating, then going for these high interest cards, or cashplus credit cards are the only options.
There's no point applying for cards your unrealistically going to be declined for, but of course I agree RISE is a ripp off, but I have informed pixypup of the risk(s) entailed.
pixypup purely just wants too build a credit score.0 -
In my own opinion a cash plus card will do absolutely nothing to help your credit score....and the Rise card is a total rip off. Stick with your Capital One....you'll get your money back, if you use your account wisely you might even get an upgrade...and in 12 months time your credit score will have improved.0

Similar story to me, Barclaycard said 80-90% chance, there was a few errors on their behalf, but I complained and they overturned the decision, althought with a slightly lower starting limit. More than happy with Barclaycard. I have now closed my Capital One Classic but will keep open the Progress.
All I can say is stick with it and it will come together!
Good luck!0
