Neither good....neither bad...as said before you have 50/50 chance.
  • Even with a CCJ, you can still be accepted for certain high level APR related credit cards and other types of credit like catalogues etc.

But once that CCJ drops off a credit file after 6 years of being marked with the credit reference agencies, then of course the credit file in respect will of course be a lot more healthier.

BUT, bare in mind, companies who grant credit are human beings, they don't just rely on computers, they do see, and they do asses (Humans) lol - So with that in mind, if for instance your other half made a credit application within a week of the CCJ dropping off, credit companies will see this as someone who is looking closely at there file and waiting for the chance to get credit immediatley after it becoming healthier and thus putting two and two together.

Be wise, advise your wife too wait.......

Once again, thanks for the sound advice! The bad news is folks, I was declined for my initial card! I don't want to carry on applying for cards as I know this will have a negative effect on my file, that being said I'm at a loss now as to what to do to improve my score. The funny thing is,asi previously mentioned, I do have very well paid job, and would settle for a card with a fifty pound credit limit as long as it allowed me to demonstrate my credit worthiness! Anyone know of anymore surefire ways to obtain a little credit that can be used to improve my score? So frustrated!
  • Are you on the electoral role?

My advice now if your fully intent on starting your credit worthiness, is too apply for a Vanquis card online. They will tell you straight away if they are going too decline you online, and they will direct you too a even higher APR rate for a card called 'Rise'.

But if they do give a message that they will inform you in a few days of there decision, it means they will call you and discuss your credit limit and you'll be succesfull, trust me.

Let me know how you get on.

They will easily accept you if you do it now.

Try Capital One, they have a secured card, you pay a security deposit and give you a card with that amount of credit available on it. When you have had it about 6 months you can qualify for an upgrade to the Classic card, at which point you get your deposit refunded.

It's not ideal but it might get you started on the right road if other companies won't give you a card.

    Hope this helps
  • Thanks guys for the advice and help, I am registered to vote yeah, I'll pursue that avenuetommorow goonergregg , your sure vanquis will accept me? Sorry I've just lost faith so to speak! Many thanks, both ofyou

Pixy had you read this http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/bad-credit-credit-cards#what

I'd probably try for either the cap1 secured card or even the credit builder prepaid card.

  • Capital One, I agree, BUT, you've just been turned down by Barclaycard, so there is a high chance Capital One will also turn you down.

You mentioned you don't care whether it's a £50 limit, do you care about the APR? I mean why should you!? At the end of the day, you just want to improve your credit limit.

My advice would be to apply for a Vanquis card. Yes it's higher APR than Capital One, but you've got a ten fold better chance of being accepted, trust me.
If you don't get accepted by Vanquis, as I say, you'll be directed to a site where you'll definatley get accepted by 'Rise'. Same company, same type of thing, just an even higher APR rate, about 45% I think?

It's not great, but just remember too not go anywhere near your limit, pay monthly as ever, and you'll find after every 3 months, with no other credit applications, and your mobile bill continuing too be paid, your credit score will improve.

Another tip, never leave your current account at £0.00, always leave it at £0.01 CR. I for one have 2 savings accounts, and try not have any money in my current account that isn't neccesary, so leave a CR balance of 1p. Never close down your bank account. It damages your credit rating like mad! If your not happy with your bank account for what ever reason, just open another.
  • Wow never new that about closing down a bank.account, I've never done that but I do have a santander account that has a zero balance! I'll.address that shortly! Okay I'm gonna go ahead and apply for the vanquis card and ill keep you posted, really appreciate the help.
