Comapnies House primarily keep records, HMRC have enforcement officers with teeth. If this company are charging VAT or mentioning a VAT element to what you paid them, HMRC will want to know as the taxpayer's agents for collecting taxes. Remember Al Capone ran all kinds of drugs and prostitution etc rackets but what brought him down was failing to pay tax on those rackets... the government wants its slice of any action and will make sure they get it ;-)
  • To the OP, you have not been stupid, you’ve been intentionally deceived - I have too. In all the time that I have used the internet for purchases I have never encountered one single problem. You could say that I was due for a problem and the sh*t storm that was my dealing with redsauna.co.uk has more than made up for this.

I purchased a hot tub from them in September. I was told at first that there was a stock issue(1) and as soon as they had stock levels they would send the order to me. A few weeks later I e-mailed, out of a desire to keep things in writing in case there was anything that I needed to rely upon and was told in a rather detailed letter that there was a problem with one of the pumps (2) and there was a mass recall (they offered me a refund at the time – which in hindsight I should have taken but read as them acting in good faith). This delay would be for a few months, foolishly I said “fine, it gives me time to prepare for where the tub is going”. I called closer to the new date and was told that they would deliver in a week. I called back in a week and they told me that they had received the wrong container from the manufacturer (3) and as soon as they sent over the correct container they would call to arrange delivery. Again I called back on the expected date (note that I am always calling them rather than them calling me) and was told that this time due to the bad weather there was yet another delay (4). I phoned again on the 7th and was told that the tub had been delivered and that they would call ASAP to arrange delivery of the hot tub. I phoned again today and was told that they would be sending out the tub as soon as they received the delivery note from the manufacturer (5) (they said that they were having communication problems with the manufacturer – I can only imagine what dealing with a company who have p*ss poor organisation and communication skills must be like). The latest excuse is apparently due to the fact that the manufacturer is celebrating Chinese new year – unbeknown to me the whole country shuts down for a few weeks whilst this happens (please note the sarcasm intended in the last sentence).

Fortunately I made the purchase via credit card and will be calling redsaunas for a refund and then immediately contacting the credit card company to let them know about this (its tantamount to fraud via deception). I thought that I’d have a look on the net for any problems that customers had and until this thread had started there was nothing (in hindsight I wish that I had joined and reported it myself).
  • I am having similar issues and they are saying mine is in customs and cannot be released due to Chinese New Year!!! I am appalled at how they can do things like this! Shocking!

Hi pretty miffed.. I can only echo what the people on here have said... you should be covered by your credit card...

But I just want to say you have NOT been stupid! Don't be so hard on yourself! There was no way you could have known this was a con.
