OP, you did the most important thing, which was to pay by credit card. It gives you a great deal of protection, for transactions over £100.

  • I think, as others say, reporting it to your bank is a good idea. Your bank may even have some advice about what to do, I'm sure they have other people asking them too.

Maybe you could also report it to Watchdog?

The OP will inform the Credit Card co, most likely fill in a form and that will be it as the Card co will sort it out.

The whois record shows that redsaunas.co.uk is registered to an individual and not a company.

The address on the Red Saunas website is for a leased office at the Pinetree Centre: http://www.flexas.com/office-space/birtley/pinetree-centre

The address on the whois record is for a tiny flat above a Costcutter convenience shop.

The address registered with Companies House is for an industrial estate in central Durham.

It looks like a very small company, run by a single person who isn't staying on top of their business obligations (i.e. ensuring that the address registered with Companies House appears on their website, ensuring that their domain name is registered as a company rather than an individual, deceiving customers over stock levels etc.).

Maybe they are (or once were) a legitimate business, but it has to be said that they do look pretty dodgy.

If the contract hasn't been honoured in a timely fashion, I'd get straight on to the credit card company and claim the money back from them under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974: http://www.which.co.uk/money/credit-cards-and-loans/reviews-ns/credit-cards/credit-card-faqs/

Red Saunas Ltd is registered as a non-trading company and has been for some time. They may have nothing to do with the business operating the 'Red Saunas' website, but as both seem to be based in county Durham I'm guessing there's a connection. Either someone is illegally using their name, or they exist but are operating illrgally.Whatever, you should report them to Trading Standards, (starting with your local authority) who will pass on the information to the relevant TS dept who will track them down and prosecute whoever is responsible, (unless they do a runner of course). As you can see their registered address was/is in Belmont, Durham.

Any doubt I had vanished when I saw they were using the safebuy seal whilst not being authorised to do so. That smacks of an intention to deceive, whilst not being definitive proof.
  • Thanks everyone. I phoned my bank and I'll be going in on Saturday and for a chat. Ive also had a few friends have a look into the company and they pretty much agree with what everyone here has said.

I went to trading standards and they have told me to get in touch with citizens advice so I will make an appointment with them and another friend has advised that if the company is trading illegally the quickest way to get this properly looked into would be to inform VAT. I have not got a clue about that kind of thing so that is going to be done on my behalf.

Thanks again for all your time.
