They may not be the best organisation in the world and I am not defending them.
However, most uk shelters put healthy animals down. It is definitely not just the RSPCA but they seem to get all the backlash for it.
It's a result of too many animals and not enough homes. It is not -their- fault.
Glad you are not defending them. Ths issue I have is that they are representing themselves as an animal charity. Unlike most other charities however they have a political agenda (spending £330k on a single prosecution, surely the CPS should have been doing that), entirely fitting as their chief executive has a long history of being involved in PR. Given that, as far as I know, they dont take strays in any more, what animals are they putting down? Anyway I think people are seeing the light as their membership and donations are down so thats a positive step.0 -
The RSPCA aren't the ones in the wrong here, the people who keep mindlessly breeding are. It's impossible for the RSPCA to be able to take on all dogs, even they have limits to kennel space. Some dogs may spend years in a kennel if not pts, that's no life for a dog. As someone else said, most rescues have to put some down, it isn't something they enjoy or want to do.0

You can find out just how much your local RSPCA branch is both receiving and spending on the Charity Commissions Website
Its interesting in some cases how much they are spending to raise funds, i.e those door knockers or people stopping you in the high street.0 -

Read up on what the RSPCA does, theres plenty both pro and against. Read some of the accounts of what they do, who they prosecute and why, then decide for yourself. They might have more kennel space if they didnt spend so much money prosecuting people.0 -

Perhaps if they stopped employing call centre staff and giving them bonuses to get extra money out of people then they could use that money instead of pestering you0 -
At the risk of ignoring the animal welfare stuff and just responding to the actual point, call the RSPCA and ask for the subscriptions department. Tell them in no uncertain terms that you wish to be removed from their mailing list for annual support campaigns, and that you do not wish to be contacted by telephone for further requests, marketing or anything else.
I did this with several charities and everyone except the NSPCC complied. I eventually told them to get stuffed after the third begging call in as many months.
If you remove their implied right to contact you, and complain that you find the materials distressing and do not wish to remove it, they are legally bound to do so. Further telephone calls can be reported to the ICO.Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

I realise the RSPCA do put animals down. However I would be surprised if they do it 4 hours after an animal is handed in!
She had had a stroke and was very unsteady. She would have looked very ill to a vet.Unfortunately we had taken her collar off as she wasn't allowed out and had devloped an irritation on her neck. my young grandson had left the door open so away she went.
Couldn't believe they were ready to pts so soon.
We only had her for another 6 months but at least she was with the family she loved when she died.0 -
what upsets me is that their Chief executives are paid MASSIVE amounts of money (that is being paid from YOUR donations).
RSPCA CEO gets £95K pa!!!!just in case you need to know:

95k is not a great deal of money for a CEO of a huge business like the RSPCA.
Obviously in an ideal world you would want someone cheaper but if you want someone competent you have to pay for it.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
