Um, I'm not so sure. We may assume it's ready meals, but - part of my point was maybe it could be much wider and how do we know if we're not testing other meats - perhaps it's also fresh meat. Although there is the 'taboo' against horsemeat in this country and I detect that some or many people would be aghast and have objections to having found out they've been consuming horse, also perhaps there is, in some quarters, less concern now than would have been so, say, 10 years ago (given that many people are travelling abroad and may have encountered these things and wondered why there is such a problem here). In the U.S., my perception is, it's even greater a taboo.
Horses do look 'friendly' creatures and I would have been aghast to consume horse twenty or so years ago - indeed would never knowingly have done so, then or (probably) now. However, as regards being concerned, it's arguably only a real concern if things such as the painkiller bute manage to cause danger to people consuming the meat, or cases of unregulated antibiotics etc. possibly being used in an illegal trade situation.0 -

It's funny, OH and I were having this conversation in A's yesterday.
We were debating which sausages to get, he wanted the ones that were 90% pork, but I find them to 'meaty' iykwim lol
I told him I preferred the ones at 72% pork and 28% floor sweepings, far more tasty!:rotfl:
So you don't like a meaty sausage then.Something unexpected happened which made me smile and still continues to make me smile.

Savvybuyer wrote: »I've already wondered about this: how do we know that the pork chops we're buying haven't got horsemeat in them? If some of the beef being tested is coming back 1% horse - and thus failing - surely there may be traces (or a little more - e.g. 1%) of horse in pork, chicken, turkey? They're of course only testing "beef" (or what's labelled as being such) as that's where the issue arose. I understand horse meat tastes like "any good steak" (at least according to one BBC Newsnight presenter) of beef. Presumably if there was only 1% of horse in a chicken burger or a lamb chop, for instance, the taste of beef-like horse wouldn't be tasted that strongly?
Hence couldn't any "pork", "chicken", "turkey" or "lamb" - or even - huge scandal of scandals - any "vegetarian no-meat" dish, have traces (or a little more) of horse in it? Probably there's lots of things in lots of foods - and foods crossing into other foods that might for instance all be made in the same factory?
