  • Definately get quotes from a man+van.

When I moved 150 miles (each way) I got quotes that were barely any more than the fuel bill.

  • The bigger companies will let you do one way, but as others have said, you'll pay extra. Try ones like Enterpr1se and put in details to see what sort of a quote they offer for one-way, then compare to the cost of paying petrol for return journey and the train ticket, and the time it'll take (and perhaps the day off from work).
Use RAC or AA or similar route maps to calculate mpg based on vehicle size and current fuel price.
If you factor all that in a one-way hire is probably going to be most reasonable.

I used this company recently for my move. They're not London based but might be able to help.

Please click spam as this guy works in SEO (Try googling his name) and all but his first few qualifying posts have linked to companies he is being paid to post links to their websites to boost their google presence.

If you have time please also click spam on his other posts which post links to companies who are paying him for search engine optimisation
  • depending where in london you are I always get my vans from these guys

Under £50 for a transit for 24 hours. And fairly new vans so good fuel economy.

If you only have 1 van load you can probably get away without a man in a van, just rope in a friend to help lift.

Reading the comments above and in this thread its seems that the best priced van hire companies are Kendall and top spot northgate hire you can see the prices compared here for a 15 mile radius of london van hirecomparison
the website is very fast at finding the cheapest prices from these smaller hire companies.

I use Kendall a lot, the vans are good, the staff on the desks leave a lot to be desired with the customer service though. If they could get that right they would be good all round.
