But those who have had more than one pair can easily compare them - the new ones are definitely lower quality and Hunter don't care (yet) because they can still charge silly money for them.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

The older ones where great and you could get 4 to 5 years of use out of them, the new ones are utter rubbish, sorry but where ever you are using then, in fields or on a street they should not rip !!!
the older ones had Made in Scotland on the label that's on the front of the boot below the HUNTER name, doubt any are still about to buy new as its been a few years now since they made them in Scotland, use to love them as they where so comfy now i do not buy them, a huge waste of money, and now oddly a fashion item these days LOL who would have thought it a welly a fashion item, worlds gone mad :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::wave:0 -
If you think about it, original Hunters will have been made using imported rubber (probably from the far east) on old machines.
The new Hunters will be made using rubber (the same rubber but more local), following the same design, on new machines.
I think the quality of the product is more or less the same, where as the usage and market of the product has altered a lot.
Every pair I have had in my immediate family, about 6 pairs over the last few years, have been fine. My current pair are about 2 years old now and still like new. But we only use them as wellies, not an everyday fashion item.0 -
Black, green and short pink one in Telford. Also Chloe shoes for £40 and Celine heels for £60. I had some fun in there today

But i was using Hunters 25 odd years ago when they lasted me 4 to 5 years, i used them for work outside, horses, dogs, i even use to ride ( horses ) in them, just the same as i do now, and until about 5 years ago i was still buying Hunters, they where great, comfry and kept your feet dry, so if they are made the same now but on newer machines in another country (China) how come they hardly last a few months doing the same work as the older Made In Scotland pairs ? the quality simply isnt the same or if it was i would still be buying them but instead i now buy Aigle, current pair now into their 3rd year and look just as good as the Hunters but don't leak or rip
Maybe all depends on what use you give your wellys, if you wear then for the odd rainy day they may last a bit longer but if you want a good quality investment item of footwear that will give you years of regular use, then they are no long up to that job, all depends on what you want and how you want to spend your money but for me its hardly money saving buying leaky Hunters :money::wave:0 -
I have read that the difference was that the "original" made in Scotland hunter was made in one piece whereas the new version is several pieces joined hence more prone to splitting. I was purchasing hubby a pair of wellies for Christmas and was checking some reviews, sorry I cant find the link now.
New hunters do get shockingly poor reviews for longevity if you intend to use them for more than the odd April shower. Apparently "Lowther" wellies are also made by Hunter so same quality but half the price. I bought my husband a pair of them for Christmas from Amazon and they are going fine but like I said it has only been a couple of months.0 -
I got my Hunters in August and have walked probably over 200 miles in them through muddy fields, snowy roads, flooded roads and just wet paved roads.
They are as good as new still.
If you do want some it's worth keeping an eye on Javari. I picked some others up from there a couple of months back for £36.:beer:0 -

Lots of information about hunters here, different styles for different uses, care, 12 month warranty....0 -
Thanks OP, I went to the TKMaxx near Tottenham Court Road in London and they had a shelf left of them, mostly size 6s left (I am usually a size 6 but find that I need a size 5 Hunter). There are pink, black, shiny black (or it could've been dark green) and red left I believe.
Unfortunately they put the magnetic tag on the side so there is a tiny hole in my Hunter!0 -
Used to have original Hunters which were really tough and hard wearing, used mainly for walking the dogs over fields and through lanes. Had a pair of the new ones last year, they only lasted a few months, they are a very cheap copy in my opinion. We now only buy AIGL wellies, definitely good quality and they have thermal liners.Life is too short to drink bad wine!0
