My aunt is on dla, higher mobility.
and giving up the higher rate DLA, mobility component, and getting a motability car..
After the 3 year lease for a motability car (Mercades)
what are the options after this?
-They AUTOMATICALLY put you back onto the higher rate monbility ? (the DWP that is)
-you can buy the car, and continue to drive it? - if so what is the price ?
-any other options ?

Once the lease is over, you can purchase the car.
However, the vehicles are as I understand it sold at auction, so you may not get a good price. You do not get preferential pricing.
You can start to receive your HRM payments again.
You can lease a new car.0 -
When you get to 3 months before your lease is due to end you will get a letter from Motability explaining your options, and as Rogerblack has stated they are:
1. Give the car back and receive the HRM payment back into your account
2. Find a new car on the scheme and order it, swap the cars over when the new one is ready.
3. Ask Motability for a price for your car - and then purchase it either using their HP scheme or from private funds.Unite Disability Champion & Equality Rep0 -
I thought you had to buy car outright in one go from Motability if you wanted to keep the car, wasn't aware you could use the HP scheme to buy it from them. When you get to 3 months before your lease is due to end you will get a letter from Motability explaining your options, and as Rogerblack has stated they are:

You can lease a new car.
Can you continue the lease for the current car, that you have had for 3 years?
so you have it for another 3 years after the first 3 years?0 -

I don't believe this is an option - as I understand it, at one time there used to be a scheme that would allow this.
It's my understanding that the HP scheme mentioned above has ended.0 -
If you have done less than 15k in the 3 years you can extend the lease for up to a further 2 years, if you have certain adaptations ( hoists, swivels seats etc,) again you can ask them for a further 2 years. Five years max.
They still take your full allowance from you but you may get an enhanced 'good condition bonus'.0 -
I too, like roger, thought the HP scheme finished in 2010, however this SN473 from November 2012 suggests "Motability members can either buy a car on hire purchase through the scheme; or lease a new vehicle" I previously understood they closed the trio of (1) Specialised Vehicles Fund, (2) car and (3)'power scooter' [Route2mobility] arm to Hire Purchase in 2010.
My understanding at that time was Motability were simply not doing sufficient Hire Purchase Arrangements and the scheme fell [or was engineered] into URL="http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/20100202100434/direct.gov.uk/en/disabledpeople/motoringandtransport/yourvehicleandlicence/dg_10028000"]see archive[/URL disuse. Additionally the impending introduction of PIP in April 13 meant those with HP agreements would create legislative difficulties [owned by the HP company - mid term en-block cessation of HRM funding] that would best be avoided.
Here is the original 'Youreable' referred to by Pauliboo, you decide on HP. I have now revised my answer to the HP availability question to .. .. I don't know. Best way is ring Motability and ask - but be prepared for a fight.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. My agreement finished in August and I only had one option (to by outright with a single payment) - there wsa no mention of HP.0

Hi, I'm Paul on Youreable.
This post shows that the HP scheme is still alive and well - they just aren't advertising the fact.
